UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
VICTOR DUBREUIL, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
SUSPENDERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No.386,973, dated July 31, 1888.
Application filed May 1, 1888. Serial No. 272,44l. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, VrcToR DUBREUIL, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Suspenders, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Myinventiou relates to an improvement in suspenders, and has for its object to provide a suspender of few parts, simple construction, and which will fit to the body of the wearer without causing the slightest. annoyance or in convenience.
Theinvention consists in the construction and arrangement of the several parts, as will be hereinafter fully set forth, and pointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, in which the figure is a perspective viewillustrating the suspender in the position it would assume when in use.
The body of the suspender consists of two straps, 10 and 11, which may be made of any suitable material-elastic or otherwise-the said straps being connected at the rear near the ends by a short transverse strap, 12, the said transverse strap being secured to the shoulder-straps 10 and 11 in any approved or suitable manner.
To the rear ends of the shoulder-straps 10 and 11 a pulley, 13, is secured, preferably by means of a wire keeper, 14, passing through a loop formed in the several straps and through an eye attached to the pulley. To the forward ends of the shoulder-straps 10 and 11 abuckle, 15, is usually secured, to which buckle the keeper 16 of the pulleys 17 is attached, which latter pulleys 17 are essentially the same as the aforesaid pulleys 13.
A cord, 18 and 19, is passed over the respective rear pulleys, 13, and the respective front pulleys, 17, the said cords being provided with a loop, 20, at the rear end, their forward ends being attached to any approved form of forked suspender-ends, 21. When the Suspender is worn, the rear ends of the several cords 18 and 19 are made to cross one another, as illustrated in the drawing, the front suspender-ends, 21, being attached in the usual manner.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The improved suspenders, consisting of the shoulder-straps 10 and 11, connected at the rear near the ends by the short transverse strap 12, and each provided with a pulley, 13 and 17, at the rear and front ends, respectively, and the cords 18 and 19, passing over the said pulleys, and each provided with a loop, 20, at the rear and with the forked suspender-end 21 at the forward end, the rear ends of the cords being crossed when in use, substantially as herein shown and described.
VICTOR DUBREUIL. Witnesses:
