Description

March 17 1925. 1,530,191 L. MINTZ SUSPENDERS Filed April 28, 1924 Patented Mar. 17, 1925.
UNITED STATES AARON LEO MINTZ. F MADISON, WISCONSIN.
SUSPENDERS.
Application filed April 28, 1924. Serial No, 709,677.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I. Aanon lino MINTZ, a citizen. of Russia, and resident of Madison, in the county of Dane and State of lViscousin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Suspenders; aud'I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
This invention relates to suspenders.
Objects of this invention are to provide suspenders which may be worn beneath a shirt so as to be invisible in ordinary use, and which will securely retain the trousers in a comfortable and effective manner without allowing them to sag and which will distribute the strains, incident to the supporting of the trousers, in a very effective manner, so that the wearer experiences no discomfort.
An embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a view illustrating the suspenders in position, the top shirt, however, being omitted for clearness of illustration.
Figure 2 is a view showing the suspenders detached.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary detail of the crossed portion of the straps.
The suspenders comprise a pair of straps which have rear portions 1 and 2 and forward portions 7 and 8, respectively. These straps cross in the back centrally between the shoulder blades of the wearer and are preferably provided with relatively short narrow strips 5 which overlap and are stitched to the straps 1 and 2, as shown in Figure 8, to provide loops for guiding the straps and holding them to each other while permitting a limited amount of rela tive adjustment. The forward portions 7 and 8 of the straps are looped and provided with buckles 9 for adjustment. These looped portions are threaded through rings or corresponding members 12 which receive the terminal straps 11. The rear portions are secured through corresponding rings 13 to terminal straps 15. The straps 11 and 15 are provided with fasteners 14 and 4, respectively, which are of similar construction and are provided with an enlarged eyelet portion 5 adapted to receive the suspender button over which a portion of the top shirt has been bunched. Thisenlarged or eyelet portion .5 opens through a restricted neck into a smaller portion 6 which grips 3 5 about the connecting portion for the button and holds the bunched portion of the shirt in position in a; well known manner, thus permitting attachment of the trousers to the shirt without necessitating apertures through such shirt. It is preferable tosecure the straps 11 and 15 together by means of stitching 16 so as to hold such terminal straps in their correct angular relation as shown. in the drawings. The terminal straps 15 are connected as shown in Figure 1., to the forward button of the pair of suspe-n der buttons provided interiorly of the waist band of the trousers, as usually provided, and the straps 11 are connected to the rear button of such pair. This, it will be seen, provides a direct upward support for the rearmost of the buttons and thus supports the trousers approximately centrally of their extent, while the straps 15 pull upwardly and rearwardly and thus insuring a smooth unwrinkled front of the trousers when the suspenders are in position.
It will thus be seen that suspenders have been provided which may be positioned beneath the top shirt of the wearer and which may be readily attached to the forward pairs of buttons normally interiorly positioned upon the waistband of thetrousers. It will further be seen that these suspenders will not only retain the trousers against droppin but also hold them against the body of the wearer in a smooth and attractive manner.
Although the invention has been described inconsiderable detail, it is to be understood that it may be variously embodied and is therefore to be limited only as claimed.
I claim:
A. pair beneath pair of of suspenders adapted to be worn an outer shirt and comprising a maln straps'crosslng 1n the back and extending diagonally of the body from the back and passing beneath the arms towards the front and over the shoulder and downwardly, said straps crossing at the side beneath the arms and being permanently and securely stitched in angular relation at such side crossing, and a pair of interlocking guide straps secured to the main straps adjacent their rear crossing point and permitting limited sliding motion. In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand at Madison,
in the county of Dane and State of Wisconsin.
AARON LEO MINTZ.
