CIGAR-WRAPPER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 14, 1910.
Application filed August 14, 1909. Serial No. 512,794.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ESSINGTON N. GILFIL- LAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cigar- Wrappers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to cigar wrappers, and has for its primary object to provide an improved packaging device which can be simply and economically constructed, and which will be eflicient in use.
One of the objects of this invention is to provide an improved integrally constructed wrapper having a plurality of individual compartments for cigars.
Another object is to provide an improved cigar wrapper integrally constructed and adapted to inclose any desired number of cigars in a single wrapper.
More specifically, one of the objects of this invention is to provide a sectional cigar wrapper in which the sections are made in an integral sheet and are detachable from said sheet to provide individual compartments for any desired number of cigars.
To the attainment of these and other objects, as will appear in the following specification and be more particularly pointed out in the appended claims, reference may be had to the accompanying sheet of drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a plan view of one exemplification of my invention. Fig. 2 is an edge view of the same. Fig. 3 is a plan view of another exemplification of the invention. Fig. 4 is an edge view of the exemplification shown in Fig.- 3. Fig. 5 is an edge view of one of the wrappers with several of the sections folded into position for use.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, a sheet or strip 1 of any suitable material, such, for example, as pasteboard, or the like, is provided with a plurality of hollowed portions 2, adj acently disposed to each other, said hollowed portions being capable of being folded along adjacent edges 3 in such manner as to enable any desired number of the hollowed sect-ions to be folded over into cooperative relation with the same number of other sections. According to this invention, the said hollowed sections may be adjacently arranged in an integral sheet or strip in any desired order, but according to the preferable embodiment shown in the drawings, said sections 2 are parallelly disposed. In order to make it possible to fold any desired number of these sections over into cooperative relation with the same number of other sections, the sheet 1 is provided with series of perforations along the adjoining edges of the hollowed portions 2. Furthermore, these perforations along the adjoining edges 3 of said sections adapt the sheet to be readily parted between said sections, so that any desired portion of the sheet or strip may be severed from the remainder thereof, and utilized as a single integral wrapper for individually inclosing whatever number of cigars it may be desired to package. It will thus be seen that a cigar wrapper is pro vided comprising a plurality of part circular sections which are adapted to be detached from the sheet and folded into a plurality of individual compartments for cigars. According to the preferred embodiment, however, said sections are made substantially semi-circular, and are shaped on the ends 4 and 5 in such manner as to form closed compartments when the sections 2 are folded together in the manner described.
Referring now to Figs. 3 and A of the drawings, the embodiment shown therein comprises a sheet 6 of any suitable material, similar to. that used in the embodiment shown in Figs. 1 and 2, and is provided with a plurality of hollowed sections 7 which are of approximately the same construction and arrangement as the sections 2 shown in Figs. 1 and 2, with the exception that the sections 7 are shaped so as to form when folded individual compartments closed at one end, as shown at 8, and open at the other end 9.
What I claim is:
1. As an article of manufacture, an integral sheet provided with a plurality of hollows formed therein, said sheet being adapted to be folded along lines extending longitudinally of and between said hollows, whereby any desired number of the hollowed portions may be folded over onto corresponding hollowed portions to provide wrappers for cigars, said sheet being adapted by the construction and arrangement of the hollowed portions to be rolled in a bundle with said hollowed portions nested one within another.
2. As an article of manufacture, an integral sheet provided with a plurality of sec tions parallelly disposed and separable along lines between adjacent sections, said sections being provided with hollows conforming substantially to the shape of a cigar and foldable along the separating lines to adapt some of the sections to be superposed on other sections for wrapping cigars, said sections being adapted by conformation and arrangement to nest one within another to form a compact bundle.
3. As an article of manufacture, an integral sheet provided with a plurality of detachable sections, said sections being provided with hollows and adapted when the sheet is rolled to be nested one within an other and to be withdrawn laterally from the roll and folded one upon the other to form complete wrappers for cigars.
4. As an article of manufacture, a stiff integral sheet provided with a plurality of parallel hollows formed therein, said sheet being provided with series of perforations between the adjacent hollows to adapt said sheet to be rolled with the hollowed portions nested one within another, and to adapt portions of said sheet to be detached, said detached portions being adapted to be folded along adjoining edges of adjacent hollows to form wrappers for cigars.
5. A wrapper comprising a plurality of part circular sections parallelly disposed and foldable along dividing lines extending longitudinally of and between adjacent sections to form a plurality of individual c0mpartments forcigars, said wrapper being adapted by the construction and arrangement of said sections to be rolled with said sections nested one within another.
6. A wrapper comprising a plurality of part circular sections parallelly disposed with lateral edges adjoining each other, said wrapper being provided with perforations along the adjoining edges of said sections to adapt said wrapper to be folded laterally to superpose some of said sections upon others of said sections, the conformation and arrangement of said sections adapting the wrapper to be rolled laterally with the sections nested one within another.
7. A wrapper for cigars made in an integral strip and comprising a plurality of parallel adjacently disposed sections, each of said sections being provided with an approximately cigar-shaped depression, and the strip between said sections being provided with perforated folding lines whereby the sections may be folded together in pairs to form a plurality of individual compartments for the cigars, said strip being adapted by the construction and relative arrangement of said sections to be rolled with said sections nested one within another.
8. A wrapper for cigars and the like comprising an integral strip of pasteboard provided with adjacent elongated depressions arranged transversely of the strip, said strip being provided with folding lines extending between and longitudinally of said depressions to adapt it to be folded upon itself with the depressions in One fold opposite to those in the other for inclosing cigars, said folding linev adapting said strip to be rolled with the depressions nested one within another.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification, in the presence of two subscribing witnesses, on this 24th day of July A. D. 1909.
