IMPROVEMENT IN TOBACCO-PACKAGES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 194,197, dated August 14, 1877 application filed May 5, 1877.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, AUGUSTE VILLARET,
. of the city, county, and State of New York,
have invented a new and Improved Tobacco- Package, of which the following is a specification:
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of my improved tobacco-package; and Fig. 2, a sectional side view of a roll of the same, showing the construction of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The invention is intended for the purpose of packing chewing-tobacco in such a manner that a single chew may be taken at any moment, in the most convenient manner, without interfering with or exposing in the least the remaining portions, which are fully protected; and the'invention consists of placing a quantity of tobacco sufficient for a chew into a wrapper or shell of paper and tin-foil, or other material, of cylindrical or other shape, and connecting a number of such small packages by telescoping one within the other, and closing the end or top package.
In the drawings, A represents a shell, wrapper, or inclosure of paper or tin-foil, or both, and of cylindrical or other shape.
The wrapper is made of such a size as to store a small quantity of chewing-tobacco sufficient for one chew, both the wrapper and tobacco being pressed into the required shape by suitable machinery. r
The wrappers are closed at one end and left open at the other end to be inserted or telescoped one within the other, as shown in Fig. 2.
The wrappers may be connected by sealingwax a, or strips pasted on, or otherwise, or left loose, as desired, the end or uppermost package being either closed at both ends or inserted with the open end.
A certain number of single-chew packages thus connected into rolls are made up into a larger package, as shown in Fig. 1, or placed in boxes, or covered in other suitable manner. When required for use, the lowermost package or chew is first taken off, then the next, and so on, the remaining ones being always connected and closed, so as to be carried in the pocket without getting injured or soiled. The shell or wrapper is then readily removed from the chew, and the same thus obtained for use in a more convenient manner, preserving the remaining chews in a moist and fresh state, without the annoying drying out, as in the present packages.
Having thus described my invention, I
claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A tobacco-package formed of a number of smaller packages, arranged to slide or telescope one within the other, each containing a quantity of tobacco sufficient for one chew, substantially in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
