PACKING GASE.
No. 547,833. Patented Oct. 15; 1895.

JOSEPH E. ASAM AND FRANK MUHLENBEOK, OF SAGINAW, MICHIGAN.
PACKI NG-CASE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 547,833, dated October 15, 1895.
Application filed October 22, 1894- Serial No. 526,576. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JOSEPH E. AsAM and FRANK MUHLENBEOK, citizens of the United States, residing at Saginaw, in the county of Saginaw and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Packing-Cases; and we do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to the let ters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Our invention relates to packing-cases, providing a new wrapper for bottles, jars, &c., by means of which they can be readily wrapped and packed and unpacked without danger of breakage.
Figure 1 is a perspective of the wrapper ready for use. Fig. 2 is a perspective of the folded wrapper. Fig. 3 is a packing case partly filled, showing method of packing.
In the drawings, A is the wrapper, which consists of a thin slab of wood having furrows 2 2 cut transversely on one side thereof, dividin g its surface into four equal partsand easily bent to form.
1 1 are slots cut in one end of the wrapper to receive the other end 3 of the wrapper, as shown in Fig. 2.
B is the box or case, which may be of any size and shape to receive two or more of the folded wrappers. It is obvious that these wrappers when not in use can be packed in knockdown condition, as Fig. 1, that they can be used time after time with the same effectiveness, and that when in the case they form a substantial partition between each article.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A wrapper for bottles and articles of like character shipped in packing cases, consisting of a thin slab of like dimensions throughout, and having a longitudinal slit in one end thereof extending from the end of the slab inward to about one half of the length of the first division into which the slab may be divided, transverse furrows across the slab adapting it to be bent and form sharp corners, and dividing its surface into equal parts except the end 3 which is of the length of the slit in the opposite end, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof we affix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
' JOSEPH E. ASAM.
FRANK MUHLENBECK. Witnesses:
