CIGARETTE-PACKAGE.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, lVlARTIN 'J. SHERIDAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cigarette- Packages, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in cigarette packages, the object of the invention being to provide an improved partition which divides the cigarette space into separate compartments, so that the cigarettes from one compartment may be removed without disturbing the cigarettes in other compartments.

further object is to provide a partition of the character stated which holds the cigarettes in proper assemblage, which. may be removed and replaced after the cigarettes are in the package, and which operates as a strengthening means to prevent breaking of the cigarettes by the collapse of the package.

lVith these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating my improved cigarette Jackage. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the partition, and Fig. 3 is a view in cross section on the line 33 of Fig. 1.

1 represents a box or casing preferably of paper having one which is end per its other end, flaps 2 and 3 of paper or tinfoil or both, which may be readily folded inward and cover the ends of the cigarettes a. The package 1 is of dimension to accommodate twenty cigarettes. That is, two packs of ten cigarettes each which are spaced apart by my improved partition 5. The partition 5 is preferably of cardboard or other similar material, and comprises a flat sheet 6 adapted to be positioned against the inner face of the casing at one side, and extend throughout the entire length of the package. This sheet 6 has a strip 7 secured thereto at right angles and located midway between the side edges of the sheet. Angle strips 8, which may also be of paper, are utilized as a means for securing the strip 7 to the Specification of Letters Patent.

After the cirgarettes are in the package or before the cigarettes are in the package, if desired, the partition is located as seen clearly in Figs. 1 and lVhen so positioned, the strip 7 will divide the packs of cigarettes so that they are arranged in tandem. When the cigarettes from one compartment are removed, the cigarettes in the other compartment will be held from falling over.

As a package of this kind is extremely wide, a cigarette could fall to a position that would be difiicult to remove it it were not for my improved partition, but the latter prevents such positioning of the ciga' rette and also prevents damage to the cigarette which would occur by reason of the promiscuous movement thereof.

The partition is a separate part and can be drawn out and replaced as desired without disturbing the cigarettes, and I can utilize my improved partition in various forms of package. Furthermore, by providing a partition of this kind, I can form the cigarette package of more or less flexible material, as the partition operates as a protecting device for the cigarettes and prevents them from becoming broken in shipment.

Various slight changes might be made in the general form and arrangement of parts described without departing from my invention, and hence I do not limit myself to the precise details set forth, but consider myself at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. A cigarette package comprising 2. casing of relatively soft flexible material, and a removable partition in the casing independent of the casing and consisting of a relatively rigid sheet located against the side of the casing and of the same length and breadth as the interior of the package and having a strip rigidly secured at right angles thereto located centrally of the sheet and of a width corresponding to the thickness of the package dividing the package into two compartments, substantially as described.

2. A cigarette package, comprising a casing of relatively soft flexible material, and

a removable partitien in the casing independent of the casing consisting of a sheet of relatively strong and rigid material located against one side of the casing and of the same length and breadth as the interior of the package and having a strip rigidly secured at right angles thereto located centrally of the sheet and of a Width corresponding to the thickness of the package dividing the package into two compart- 10 ments, substantially as described.
