PIPE.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented June 1%, 910.
Application filed September 22, 1909. Serial No. 519,019.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN F. Bnncnnr, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Denver, in the county of Denver and State of Colorado, have invented a new and Improved Pipe, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The invention is an improvement in pipes, and has in view a construction of the pipe mouth-piece such that. it is adapted to be removed from the pipe and serve as either a cigarette or cigar holder, the mouth-piece having an inner socket or holder to receive either an auxiliary stem of the-pipe or cigarette, and an outer socket. or holder to abut against that portion of the pipe stem adjacent to the pipe bowl and form a finished join therewith or receive a cigar.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in whichsimilar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a pipecomplete-constructed in accordance with my invention; Fig. 2 illustrates the mouth-piece of the pipe removed and used as a cigar holder; Fig. 3 is a central longitudinal section ofthe pipe when completely assembled; and Fig. 4 is a similar section of the mouthpiece removed from the pipe.
In carrying. out my invention 1 provide a pipe bowl 5, of any desired shape or material and having a stem portion 6, the latter being counterbored from its outer end to receive an inner auxiliary stem 7, which, as best shown in Fig. 3, has a portion 8 extended a substantial distance beyond the stem portion 6, which is reduced to the diameter'of the conventional cigarette.
A mouth-piece 9 of amber, bone orother suitable material, is constructed withv an inner cigarette socket or holder 10 and an enlarged outer cigar the cigarette holder being adapted to snugly and slidably fit the outer end portion of the extension 8 of the auxiliary stem, and the cigar holder, when the stem is properly fitted to place on the pipe, bearing against the outer end of the stem portion 6 and forming'a finished joint therewith. In pulling the mouth-piece from the pipe, the latter slides from the auxiliary stem rather than the separation taking place between the stem portion 6 and the auxiliary stem, which has a reater frictional'contact. The mouth-piece is'then in readiness to be used as either a cigar or cigarette holder.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
In a pipe, a bowl havin a stem ortion, an auxiliary stem extended therebeyon'd, and a mouth-piece having a cigar holder at its outer end and a cigarette holder arranged inwardly of the cigar holder, with the ci arette holder slidably fitting over the exten ed portion of the auxiliary stem and the cigar holder arran ed to abut against {)he rliuter end of the said stem portion of the In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
