FRANKE. CIGAR HOLDER.
Patented Nov. 7, 1882-.
N. PETERS. FhchrLilhognphnr. Washinglon', 0.6.
FRIEDRICH w. FRANKE, or FINSTERWALDE, PRUSSIA, GERMANY.
CIGAR-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 267,070, dated November '7, 1882.
Application filed February 23, 1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, FRIEDRICIIWILHELM FRANKIE, ot' the city of Finsterwalde, in the Kingdom of Prussia, German Empire, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Cigar-Holders, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a longitudinal sectional view. Fig. 2 is alongitudinal sectional view of apart of section of my cigar-holder, Fig. 3 is an end view; Fig. 4, a side elevation; Fig. 5, a longitudinal sectional view of a modification of my cigar-holder; Fig. 6, a side elevation of said modification.
Similar letters of reference denote like parts.
The object of my invention is to provide a cigar-holder which will purify the smoke and prevent the nicotine and essential oils of the tobacco from entering the mouth of the smoker, and which may be readily taken apart and cleaned; also, a cigar-holder thelength of which can be increased or diminished by putting in or removing one or more of the sections of which it is composed.
My cigar-holder is composed of several sections or parts fitting oneinto the other, a mouthpiece, and a tip or holder proper for the cigar, the whole forming a cigar-holder having a tube or channel for the passage of the smoke alternately narrowing and widening through its entire length, which alternate narrowing and widening of the channel forms chambers having narrow openings from one to the other. In the drawings, A represents the complete cigar-holder; B, the mouth-piece. 0O Care the several parts or sections composing the holder; D, the tip or holder for the cigar.
The mouth-piece B is formed with an enlarged opening at its forward end, of proper size to receive the small or rear end of the first section or part of the cigar-holder.
The sections 0 are of similar form, each section, however, increasing in size from the mouthpiece to the tip, the sections, when joined together, forming a conical-shaped cigar-holder. Each of the sections 0 are tubular in form, and on their outer side taper gradually from the point 0 to the point 0, being from this point sharply contracted to the point 0 and being more gradually contracted from this point to the point 0 and forming a shoulder against which the outer edge of the preceding section rests, and being again gradually tapered from the point 0 to the rear end, 0 and being of a proper size to fit the opening in the forward end of the preceding section, the inside of said tubular section being contracted sharply from the point 0 to the point-e, and more gradually contracted to the point e to fit against the shoulder of the followingsection, and taperinggradully inward from thepoint e to the point 6 and being againsharply contracted from the point e to the pointc and forming the narrow channel d, and tapering gradually outward from the point e to the rear outer end, 0 and which contractions, together with the corresponding contractions of the other sections, form the alternately narrowing and widening channel for the passage of the smoke, and form the chambers E and narrow openings (1, as shown in Fig. 1, which chambers serve to collect the nicotine and essential oils of the tobacco during the passage of the smoke through the chan nel of the holder.
The tip or holder for the cigar has a portion, D, of the proper size to fit into the forward opening of the last section, a narrow opening, d, and an enlarged opening to receive the end of the cigar.
Amodification of my invention is as follows: The sections may be made of the same size and form a cylindrical holder, as shown in Fig. 5, and may be of any number of sections desired. In this modification of'my invention the cigarholder may beincreased ordiminished in length by taking out or putting in any number of sections. The several sections above described. are adjustedone in the other, and form the complete holder.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new- 1. A cigar-holder composed of several tubular sections or parts, having the contractions on theirouterside forming the shoulder against which the end of the preceding section tits, and having the contractions on their inner side forming the end to fit against the shoulder of the following section, and a further contraction forming the narrow openings (1, and which contractions on the inner side, taken in connection with the corresponding contractions of the other sections, form the alternately narrowing and widening channel for the passage of the smoke, substantially as described.
2. In a cigar-holder, the combination of the several tubular sections or parts, having the contractions and tapering on their outer and inner sides, with themmuth-piece and tip or 10 holder for the cigar, substantially as described. In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
