HAIR-ROLL WITH COMB-BAND ATTACHMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 14, 1910.
Application filed October 20, 1908. Serial No. 458,592.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELY A. STAcY, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hair- Rolls with Comb-Band Attachments; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
This invention relates to personal wear and particularly to a combined hair roll and comb.
An object of this invention is to provide a hair roll having an undulated surface for the purpose of iving the hair rolled thereover, a waved edect, the said roll being provided with novel means for anchoring it on the head of a wearer.
A further object of this invention is to provide means for permitting adjustment of the back and front portions of the roll with relation to each other and with relation to combs which are preferably stationed at the sides of the roll.
A further object of the invention is to provide a hair roll, preferably of soft hair, silk, or other material which will take the place of woven wire rolls now commonly employed which wire rolls have the disadvantage of being conspicuous, unless completely covered by the hair.
The hair roll forming the subject matter of this invention may be of diiferent colors and shades, in order that the roll may match the hair with which it is to be used.
A hair roll made in accordance with this invention has the further advantage of being light in weight and of such texture as to permit free circulation of air.
A still further object of this invention is to provide a hair roll and an anchoring device, said anchoring device having means for permitting the application of ribbon or other hair ornamenting devices thereto, the said ornament retaining device preferably comprising a band having a series of holes therein, the said band being formed in sections and the sections pivotally connected roll heretofore indicated. to the comb to aiford the adjustment of the With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists in the details of construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification wherein like characters denote corresponding parts in the several views, in which- Figure 1, is a view in perspective of a hair roll with the attaching device applied thereto; Fig. 2, is a plan view of the attaching device; and Fig. 8, is a sectional view on the line AB of Fig. 1.
In these drawings A, denotes the hair roll, which is preferably in the form of a ring and round or approximately round in cross section. The hair roll is formed of soft hair, silk, or the like, as stated, and the external surface is undulated as fully shown in the drawings.
As a means for anchoring the hair roll to the head of a wearer, I provide two combs B and C, having apertures D, therein to receive a ribbon or other hair ornament. Each end of each comb is provided with holes to receive the fastenings E, by which the ends of the flexible bands F, are pivotally connected to the comb and the said bands are provided with apertures G, to receive ribbons or hair ornaments.
From an inspection of Figs. 1 or 2, it will be seen that the front and rear sections of the band are pivotally connected to the combs and hence the angle of either section of the band may be changed with relation to the combs by simply moving the sections of the bands on their pivots. By reason of this construction, the rear portion of the roll can be made to lie in contact with the back of the head of the wearer, while the front portion thereof rests on the top of the head.
Various other adjustments may suggest themselves to the user and the advantages of the construction will, it is thought, be appreciated.
I claim- 1. In a hair roll, a body, combs disposed opposite each other upon said body and a semicircular band, said band pivotally connected to said combs whereby it may be ad justed with relation to said combs and said body.
2. In a hair roll, a body in the form of a ring, combs on said ring and means connected to said ring whereby the front and back portions of said roll are rendered independently adjustable with relation to the central portions thereof.
3. In a hair roll, a body of fibrous material in the form of a ring, combs on opposite sides of the ring, and flexible members extending around inside of said ring and pivotally connected to said combs, whereby the flexible members are independently adjustable with relation to each other and to the combs.
4. In a hair roll, a body of fibrous material in the form of a ring, combs on opposite sides of the ring and semicircular flexible members inside of said ring and connected thereto and having their ends pivotally connected to the combs, whereby opposite ends of said roll are rendered independently adjustable with relation to the combs.
5. In a hair roll, a body in the form of a ring, a band formed in sections, combs pivotally connected to the sections whereby the front and back portions of the roll are adjustable with relation to the combs.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and aflixed my seal in the presence of two witnesses.
ELY A. STACY. L. 3.1
