To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, WILLIAM J. LEI-IR, a citizen of the United States, residing at East Palestine, in the county of Columbiana and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bedclothes' Holders; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, making a part of this specification, and to the numerals of reference marked thereon, in which- Figure 1 is a detached view of the clothes holding pin. Fig. 2 is a detached perspective view of the clamp designed to hold the pin and clothes. Fig. 3 is a vertical section showing the pin and clamp connected to the side rail of a bed and illustrating the upper sheet properly clamped and a mattress in proper relative position also illustrating the under sheet. Fig. 4 is a similar view, showing the holder attached to the foot slat of a bedstead. Fig. 5 is a view similar to Fig. 3, showing the clamp attached to a metal bedstead. Fig. 6 is a top view showing the holders in their proper relative posit-ions with reference to a bed, showing two of said holders at the foot of the bed and one upon each side.

The present invention has relation to bed clothes holders and it consists in the novel arrangement hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the claims.

Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawing.

In the accompanying drawing, 1 represents the foot board of a bedstead, which is attached to the foot post 2 in the ordinary manner. The slats 3 are arranged in the usual manner and held in proper position by the usual device common in bedsteads in which slats are employed to support and hold the mattress and such clothing or covering common in beds. To the rearmost slat 3 is attached the angled plate 4 by means of suitable screws 5 or their equivalents. To the vertical member of the angled plate 4 is attached the U-shaped spring 6 which U shaped spring is substantially of the form shown and should be formed of such material that it will have the desired amount of spring action to properly clamp and hold the retaining pin 7 together with any clothing designed to be held. The free member of the spring 6 is provided with the block or head 8, which block or head is provided with the semi-circular recess 9, which se1ni-circular recess is for the purpose of receiving the retaining pins 7 or in other words for allowing a portion of said pin to be seated in the recess.

It will be understood that the clothing designed to be clamped and held is to be located between the block 8 and the retaining pin 7 best illustrated in Figs. 3, 4 and 5. For the purpose of providing suflicient room for the block 8 the inner member of the spring 6 is bent inward at its top or upper portion so as to provide sutficient clearance for the spring proper and the different parts designed to be carried by the spring and the bed clothing designed to be clamped.

In some instances it may be desirable to attach the clothes holder at the sides of the bed and this is especially desirable for childrens beds. When it is desired to attach the holders at the sides of the bed the holders are attached at the side rails of the bedstead as illustrated in Figs. 3 and 6.

hen it is desired to connect the holder to a metal bedstead a staple such as 10 must necessarily be employed, which. staple is passed through the slots 11 and held by the nuts 12. For the purpose of preventing any tilting of the spring or holder proper the filling bar or block 13 should be employed, which filling block or bar is illustrated in Fig. 5.

It will be understood that by providing the slots 11 the angled plate 4 can be adjusted to or from the foot board 1, thereby providing proper adjustment for the holder. For the purpose of preventing the pin 7 from rotating in case the bed clothing should be pulled, said pin is provided with the fiat face 14, which flat face abuts against the outer member of the spring 6. l/Vhen it is desired to clamp the clothing the ends or edges are placed between the block 8 and the opposite member of the spring 6 after which the holding pin 7 is placed in position so that it will be held by the block 8 and the semi-circular groove or recess 9. In order to release the bed clothing the holding pin 7 is lifted or pulled upward, which upward movement detaches it from the spring and its holding head.

It will be understood that the holding pin 7 should be formed of a length somewhat greater than the width of the spring 6 and the head 8 so that the ends of said pin will extend beyond the edges of the spring and the head, thereby providing means for easily removing the retaining pin 7, which retaining pin should be provided with the handles 15.

Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is I 1. In a bed clothes holder the combination of an angled plate, one member of said angled plate provided with elongated slots, a U-shaped spring secured to the vertical member of the vertical plate, one member of said U-shaped spring having an inward bent upper portion, a block secured to the spring member, said holding block provided with a semi-circular recess and a holding pin provided with a flat surface, said flat surface adapted to abut against the outer member of the U-shaped spring, substantially as and for the purpose specified.

2. In a bed clothes holder of the class described, the combination of a U-shaped spring, means for securing said U-shaped spring in fixed position, a block secured to said U-shaped spring and a detachable rewith a flat surface, substantially as and for the purpose specified.

3. In a bed clothes holder of the class described, the combination of an angled plate, said angled plate adjustably connected to the bedstead structure, a U-shaped spring secured to said angled plate, the free ends of said U-shaped spring extended above the top of the angled plate, one member of said spring provided with a recessed element, a detachable clothes holding pin, said detachable pin provided with a flat surface adapted to abut against the fiat surface of one of the spring arms and the other surface with the recessed element, all arranged, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
