Description
pa-tal aan.
E. A. GOODES, 0F PHLADELPHIA,PENNSYLVANIA,ASSIGNORYTO THE PHIL- ADELPHIA PATENT AND NOVELTY COMPANY, OE SAME PLACE.
Letters PatentNo. 95,791,1lated October` 12, 18,69.
IMPRovni': TABLE AND cRADLn commen.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the lange.
To all whom it may concern I Be it known that I,'E. A. GOODEs, of Philadelphia,
- Philadelphia county, and State of Pennsylvania, lhave invented a new and improved Combined Table and Cradle; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof', -which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification. The object of this vinvention is to provide a worktable and cradle in one article of furniture, capable of ready adjustment from one condition to the other.
The invention consists o f a circular or other-formed table-top, the under half of one side of which is detachable, a set of semi-elliptical. legs, anda circular lbrace connected to the legs at the centre, made intwo parts, and hinged together, all so arranged as to be readily adj usted to the conditions' of either a table or cradle, as hereinafter specified.
Figure 1 represents a sectional elevation of `my improved device, When arranged for a table;
Figure 2 represents a sectional elevation, when arrangedfor a cradle; and
lFigure 3 represents a transverse section, when ar4 vranged for a cradle.
Similar letters ot' reference indicate corresponding parts.
The top`A, which may be either circular or any other form best adapted for the rockers of a cradle when separated and set on the edge, is made with one under side B, of one-half detachable from the' other part, and the one leg of this side permanently' attached to it, while the other legs are attached to the other part.
These legs-O areJsemi-ellliptical in shape, and the convex sides are placed inward.
'D is a c rcular strengthening-rib or brace connected to the convex sides of the legs, at the centrelengthwise, and made in two parts, hinged together.
E E are short convexed braces, connected to the tafble-top and the lim D.
` By this arrangement, the part B of the table and its leg may be turned on thehinges F of the rim D, so as to fold down into they position represented in fig. 2, with the edges of the two partsA B o f the top resting on the floor forming the ends of a cradle, whose bottom and side rails are composed ofv the legs C, supported in the centre by the rim D, making au ornamental and useful'chi-lds cradle.
It may be also arranged with the partA in a verti= cal position, andthe part B turned down in the position represented in red in g. 2, constituting a sewing table and childs playing-chair'.
Having thus described my invention,
-What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letn ters Patent, is-
The combination and arrangement of the `divided tahletop A B, semi-elliptical legs C, and circular brace or support D, made in twoparts, and hinged together, substantially as specified.
` y E. A. GOODES.
