IMPROVE!) TOILET AND NURSERY-TABLE.
The Schedule referred to in these Lettere Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY HA'vnKons'r, of Leavenworth' City, in the county of Leavenworth, and State of Kansas, have invented a new and improved Combined Toilet and Nursery-Table; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof', which will -enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part Aof this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents a front elevation, partly in section, of my improved table.
\ Figure 2 is a perspective view, partly in section, of
the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts. y
This invention relates to a new table, which can be used as a toilet-table, and which, as it can be supported on one single leg on the side, can be used as a nursery-table, to have its top extending over the bed of a sick person.
The table can also be usedvasa writing and readingdesk, as it can be made high or low, as may be desred.
The invention consists chiefly in constructinga table of a top-and two supports, of which one can, by means of a rack and pinion, be lengthened or shortcned, while the other one can be swung up against the unde'r side 'of the leaf to be out ofthe way, so that the table can be brought to the side of' a bed, with its upper part extending across the bed.
The table can also be used as a writing or readingdesk, by having its lid hinged and adjustable t any degree of inclination, and as a toilet-table, as it contains a box-shaped top.
A, in the drawing, represents the top, or upper part of a table, supported upon two or more posts, B and C, two being shown inthe drawing.'
The post, or'leg B is very strong, and has its lower end irmly secured upon a base, D, which may rest\ on castersn a, as shown.`
The leg B is hollow to receive a rack-bar, E, which projects from the under side of the tabletop.
A pinion, b, which is hung on an arbor, c, that has its bearings in the post B, meshes into the teeth of the rack E, and by turning it, by means of a suitable handle, d, the table-top will be raised or lowered at will, said top being not secured to the body of the post B. y
By means of a pawl, or clutch, e, which is pivoted to the post B, can the rack be locked in any desired position, to secure the table-top at a suitable height. Thus the table can be raised or lowered at will. Instead of the rack, pinion, and pawl, other equivalent devices may be employed.
Its top can be made box-shaped, and provided with a hinged lid, j', which can be opened more or less to serve as a writing-table. f
The box-top converts the table into a toilet-table, which can be used to sustain suitable articles.
The second leg C is hinged to the underside of the table-top, as at y, and rests, when the table-top is lowered, upon a block, h, that projects om the base D. When the top is raised, it (the leg'C) is also elevated.
'It can be swung. up, as in fig. 2, and fastened to the under side of the top A, by a hook, or other catch, i, provided thereon.
In this latter position, the device can be moved to the side of a bed, with the top extending across the bed, so that sick persons may use it for eating, or other purposes. i f
It' more than two legs are used, they must be constructed like those above described.
Having thus described my invention,
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is l i The combination ofl -the base, D, having the fixed post B, with the box-shaped, or otherwise constructed table-top, A, which is provided with the rac-k E, or its equivalent, and the hinged post C, all arranged and operating substantially as herein shown and described.
HENRY HAVEKORST.
