LOUIS METZDORF, OF CLARKSVILLE, IOWA.
HAT-FASTENER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LoUIs METZDORF, a citizen of the United States, residing at Clarksville, in the county of Butler and State of Iowa, have invented new and useful Improvements in Hat-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in hat fasteners for women and the object of the invention is to provide a simple and thoroughly effective device of this character, which is at all times retained in the hat.
Vith the above, and other objects in View, which will appear as the description progresses, the invention resides in the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing, there has been illustrated a simple and preferred embodiment of the invention and in which,
Figure l is a perspective view of the device detached from the hat. Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view of the device, applied to a hat and showing the method of attaching the same to the hair of the wearer. Fig. 3 is a detail sectional view, illustrating the manner of securing the fastener to the hat.
I11 the accompanying drawing the numeral l designates an improved hat fastener. This hat fastener 1 comprises a body portion or strap 2 from which projects in opposite directions suitable spaced teeth 3 and 4. The band or body 1 extends a suitable dis tance beyond the teeth and has its ends offset as at 5, and provided with oppositely disposed fingers. 6. Each of the fingers 6 has an opening 7 and these openings are adapted for the reception of a suitable, headed fastening devices 8. These fastening devices 8 may be of any preferred construction, such as a McGrill paper fastener and do not enter into the subject matter of the claim.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed June 2, 1909.
Patented Apr. 19, 1910. Serial No. 499,659.
The device is adapted to be positioned within the hat 9, as clearly shown in Fig. 2 of the drawing and when the hat is to be positioned upon the head of the wearer, the teeth 4 which are adapted to extend forwardly toward the front of the hat are first inserted within the hair of the wearer. It will be noted that the teeth 4 are of a greater length than the teeth 3, so that when the said teeth 4: are projected a suitable distance, the hat may be drawn backwardly, so as to allow the shorter teeth 3 to also engage the hair of the wearer, opposite to that engaged by the teeth 4:.
From the above description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, it will be noted that I have provided an extremely simple and effective device for the purpose intended, one which may be manufactured at a comparatively small cost and which may be readily applied to or removable from the hat as desired.
Having thus fully described the invention what is claimed as new is:
A hat fastener of the class described, comprising a body portion provided with offset extensions having openings, the body being also provided with oppositely disposed teeth, and the teeth extending from one side of the body being of a greater length than the teeth extending from the opposite side of the body, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I ailix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
LOUIS METZDORF.
