To all whom 'it may concern: v

Be it known that I, OSCAR EISENKRAMER, a citizen of the Empire of Germany, residing in New York, in the borough of Manhattan, county and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Closers for Garments, of which the following is a speciication.

This invention relates to anim roved closing device for ladies waists, skirts, under-garments and apparel of all kinds, in which the well-known fasteners composed of s ring-sockets and interlocking heads are employed, and which are made up in certain lengths and cut off in pieces as required for use on the garments.

Heretofore closing devices consisting of hooks and eyes and buttons and buttonholes were made up in lengths and used b being cut off and applied to the garments or closing the same. They all had certain disadvantages, the buttons and buttonholes taking up considerable time in closing them, besides entailing a considerable labor in .making the button holes and sewing on the buttons, while the hooks and eyes are hard to close, are often bent out of shape and are not reliable Aenough in holding the parts together'.

The object of thisinvention is to furnish a closing-device which can be uickly opened by a single pull'ffor the whole ength of the garment so as'to -quickly and effectively Separate the parts and permit convenient closing of the same by simply pressing the partstogether again.

The face-strip a2 is preferably made of less width and of thinner fabric than the base-strip a1 so as to permit thev formation of the holes in the same in line with the openings of the spring-sockets by the headed studs of the fasteners attached to the overlapping stri o. The overlapping strip b is also made o a base-'stri b1 made of stout material and about equa in width with the strip a1.4 Itis provided with a facestrip b2, which is stitched along its edges to the strip b1, in the'same manner as the facestrip a2 to the strip a1.

The headed studs e are placed between the base-strip o* and face-strip b2, and at- Itached to the latter by preing the heads through the strip b2. They are arranged at suitable distances for each other, corresponding to the distances between the spring-sockets attached to the strip a1. The headed studs e are held in positlon in the holes pressed into the covering face-strip b2, ready for connection with the spring-sockets d of the strip al, without lrequiring any fastening stitches. The headed studs of the overlapping strip b coincides with the i spring-sockets of the under-lapping strip, so that they readily interlock with each other. The underlapping strip a is attached to the underlapping portion of the garment and Athe overlapping strip b to the ovelapping portion ofthe same.

When it is desired to close the arments, the headed studs of the overlapping strip are pressed, one after the other, into the socket-portions of the fasteners of the underlapping strip so as to close the garment in the well-known manner in such fastening,

referably plated so as to vprevent rusting. The fastening strips of the closing device ase-strip can be made up in any desired length and cut into pieces of proper size as required for the garments.

aving thus described my invention, l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

1. In a closing device for garments, the combination, with an underlapping strip consisting of a base-strip and a face-strip stitched at its edges to the base-strip and provided with holes, and a plurality of spring-sockets placed between said strips and stitched to the base-stripin registra-` tion with said holes, of an overlapping strip also consisting of a base-strip and a facestrip stitched at its edges to the base-strip and provided with a plurality of holes, and headed studs with their bases lying between said last-named strips and having their Shanks projecting from said holes, said bases being free from stitches and the heads being received in said sockets.

2. A closer for garments, consisting of an underlapping strip, spring-sockets attached to said underlapping strip and a face-strip for covering the sockets, and an overlapping strip formed of a base-strip and a face'- strip, the base-strip being provided with holes, headed studs supported by said facestrip and adapted to engage the springsockets of the under-lappingstrip, the socket-portions and headed studs being arranged at the same distance from each other on the underlapping and overlapping strips.
