Be it known that I, NANCY MAY INeLn, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Chetopa, in the county of Labette and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Air-Cooling Fans, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

This invention relates to fans and the principal object of the same is to provide means whereby the air-agitating movements of the fan will cause the same to moisten. the air and thereby reduce its temperature.

In carrying out the object of the invention generally stated above it is contemplated equipping a. fan with a sheet of absorbent material which is moistened or dipped in water so that as the fan is used, the GVHDO- ration of the moisture from said sheet will cool the air.

It will be understood of course, that in the practical application of the invention, the essential featiiires of the same are necessarily susceptible of changes in details and structural arrangements, but certain preferred and simple embodiments thereof are shown in the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a toilet fan embodying one form of the invention. Fig. 2 is a contra verticalsectional View thereof. Fig. 3 is a similar view showing a modified frame. Fig. 4t is a perspective view of another form of the invention. Fig. 5 is a central vertical sectional view thereof. Fig. 6 is a similar view showing a modified frame.

Referring to said drawing by numeral, and more particularly to Fig. 1 thereof, it will be observed that the improved fan comprises a substantially oval fan frame 1, preferably of reed or ratan to which the handle 2 is stitched by means of the strip of ratan or reed A layer of absorbent sheet material at, which may be felt or the like is retained between two sheets of textile material 5-6 by means of the edge stitching 7 which may be of reed, ratan or ther suitable material which holds said sheets within the frame 1.

In Fig. 3 the frame 8 of the fan is composed of light metal such as aluminum which may be of a substantially trough-shape so that the sheets 4, 5 and 6 may be clamped therein by means of the rivets 9.

In Figs. 4 and the fan has been shown as composed of two frame sections 1O11 the frames being of ratan or reed and the frame 10 having a handle 12. A hinge connection 13 which may also be of reed or ratan comiects the two frames. The frame 11 has a textile sheet 14 stitched therein by means of the edge stitches 15, also preferably of ratan or reed, and the frame 10 has an outer layer of textile material 16 and an inner layer of absorbent material 17, both of said sheets of material being stitched in said frame by means of the ratan or reed stitches 18.

In Fig. 6 the frames 10 and 11 are of aluminum or other light metal and the sheets carried thereby are clamped between the edges of said frames.

in using the preferred form of the invention, the sheets may be released at one portion of their edges as suggested in Fig. 1 and the water applied to the absorbent sheet in any convenient way after which the edges of the sheets are again secured to the frame. l n using the form of the invention suggested in Fig. 3, the frames 10 and 11 are opened and the water applied to the absorbent sheet carried by the frame 10 after which the frame section 11 is fastened over the same. It will be seen that by means of the outer layers of textile material, the absorbent material will retain the moisture for quite a long while so that the fan may be used to moisten, the air practically indefinitely.

1t will also be understood, of course. that if preferred the fan may be moistened by dipping the same in water so that both layers. will be saturated and the same may be used both for lowering the. temperature of the air, and also for spraying water about a room to lay dust &c.

The frame section 11 shown in F 8 is preferably provided with a clasp 19. which may be formed of reed or ratan and which is adapted to engage over the frame 10 to hold said frames in closed relation.

2. A fan comprising a frame textile sheets within said frame, and an absorbent sheetinterposed between said textile sheets and adapted to moisten the air agitated by the fan.

A fan comprisin a frame provided with a handle, and a pnirality of layers of sheet material retained Within said frame, one of said sheets being of absorbent material and adapted to be moistened to cool the air agitated by the fan l. A fan comprising a frame. handle carried thereby, an inner layer of absorbent material Within said frame, an outer covering of textile material for said absorbent material, and means for retaining-said sheets within said frame.

A fan comprising a main frame section an absorbent sheet carried thereby, a textile sheet carried by said frame section and covering one side of said. absorbent sheet, a second frame section hinged to said main frame section, and a textile sheet carried by said second 11 ,116 section.

A fan comprising a pair of frame sections, a hinge connection therebetween, means for retaining said sections in closed relation, and an absorbent sheet carried by one section and adapted to be inclosed by said sections when the same are in closed relation.
