SLATE-CLEANER AND SPONGE-POCKET FOR SCHOOL-SLATES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 30, 1910.
Application filed February 24, 1909. Serial No. 479,826.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, AUGUST ENen, of Klein-Helmsdorf, Silesia, in the Empire of Germany, having invented a new and useful Improved Slate-Cleaner and Sponge- Pocket for SChOOl-SlLtS, do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
This invention consists in a pocket or bag for the sponge, which is lined inside with waterproof material and consists of material that is suitable for use as a wiper or cleaner. In this pocket the sponge remains moist for several days, so that it is always ready for use, and there is no occasion to employ saliva for moistening it. This sponge pocket has the further advantage that the sponge does not need to be fastened to the slate by a string or a tape and consequently it lasts considerably longer, as with the method of fastening hitherto employed the sponge can be easlly torn in the place through which the tape or string is run.
The accompanying drawing illustrates one embodiment of my invention.
It will be noted that the lining of water proof material 2) is disposed wholly within the fabric bag and extends up to but not beyond the margins of the open ends thereof. This gives the bag the appearance of being composed wholly of fabric and of Wholly concealing the inner lining. Furthermore the fastening means for holding the open ends of the bag closed are disposed wholly within the bag so that when the bag is closed the fastening means is not visible. It is also of great advantage to inclose the fastening in the bag so that the metal parts thereof will not scratch the slate when the same is being cleaned by the bag.
In carrying out this invention the bag or pocket at is made of a piece of fibrous woven material which is very suitable for drying the moist slate. The inside of the pocket is lined with india rubber or similar water proof material I) which prevents the evaporation of the water, so that the sponge when once moistened remains moist for a long time. The pocket is attached in a suitable manner to the slate by means of a tape 0. The fastening of the pocket is effected by means of a stud and eyelet fastening d c.
It is of no consequence as regards the invention whether the pocket is made by stitching together two different pieces of material or forming the bag from a single piece of woolen material with an under layer of india rubber or the like fixed thereto.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, I declare that what I claim is 1. A slate cleaner and sponge holder comprising a flexible bag of fabric provided with an open end and adapted to receive a sponge, a lining of imperforate water-proof material disposed wholly within said bag and extending to and not beyond the margins of the open end thereof, and fastening means disposed wholly within the bag for closing the open end thereof.
2. A slate cleaner and sponge holder comprising in combination, a flexible bag of fabric provided with an open end and adapted to receive a sponge, a lining of waterproof material disposed wholly within said bag and extending to and not beyond the margins of the open end thereof, a two part fastening device disposed wholly within the bag for holding the open end of the bag closed, and a slate attaching tape secured to the inside of one margin of the open end of the bag.
