' 10 the body material to remain in proximity to the upper edge of the fran1eto simulate the expensive rhand sewed bags, wherein the Vbody extends from the upper edge of the rframe and the lining serves to cover the binding strip, eliminating the nee-dvand expense of covered binding strips as well as providing a. bag structure, which is strong, durable and neat in appearance.
. It is to be understood that the particulars herein given are in no way limitive, and that while still keeping within the scope of the invention any desired modiication of details and proportions may be made in the construction of the appliance according to circumstances.
The invention comprises further features and combination vof parts to `be hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings and. claimed. In the drawings f f Figure l is an enlarged fragmentary-sec-y tional view through a bag, constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure-2 is a fragmentary plan view of the bag as in Figure 1.
Figure 3 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view of a modified form of theinvention.
Figure 4 is a detailed sectional View of a 40 further modified form of the bag structure.
Referring to the drawings, the present invention embodies in combination a Vhinged y frame l of approved construction, such as is used in forming hand bags orl analogous luggage carriers, and which includes right angularly disposed sides 2 and Y3, which are covered by leather material 2a. In the preferred form of invention, a substantial U-shaped strip of leather 4 is placed between the inwardlyV extending side 3 ofthe A illustrated in vFigure of 1925.VV serialv No; 38,864.
frame land the binder strip 5, which in the present invention, comprises right angularly disposedsides 6 and'7. A leather filler strip 4a is fastened between the sides of the U-shaped strip 4. The strip of leather or analogous material 4 is bent to assume anV inverted v i-shape, and the outer leathervcovy ering as indicatedatS of which the body of the hand bag together with the inner back.
ing 8a are :formed and. stitched to thel back A6o or bent portion of the strip 4 asshown at 9,V and having the outer surface ofthe body material substantially flush with the outerl surface of. the'frarne l.` The cloth lining `l0 .n on theinside of the bag rests against the G5 horizontal sides ofthe binding strip 5, andit will be seen that the strip 4 will be enclosed within the bag structure and will not be visible, therefore it will be unnecessary to cover the strip. It is also apparent that a bag structure which is relatively strong is Y provided, and in which the stitching'9 will simulate the more expensive hand sewed type of bag.l
In Fi form of theinvention is shown which the outer bag material'which together with `the lining is bent downwardly between the Vside 3 of the frame l and the side 6 :ofthe bindv ing strip 5 is riveted vby means of a rivetBDi 20, to securely connect the bodycmaterial 8f to the frame l and the binding strip 6. Stitching as identified at 9 may be provided lto simulate hand sewedxbags and likefthe .Y preferred form of the invention the body is" 852i;
reinforced.. adjacent to the frame 1 by the horizontal part 7f of the binding'strip'. i
If it is so desired the framexof the `bag maybe provided with an indented shoulder Y30 which receives therein the edgefof the 99" Y body material, as shown in the Amodified form. of the invention,fdisclosed in Figure 4 of the drawings.V In-.all other respects this latter modified/'form`r agrees with the'V form v the drawings.
Whatlclaimisziyg. In Va bag structure, the combinati a bag body lcomprising anouter leather'cov- FFI-CE?" t .Y
gure 3 of the drawings, a modified 75j K onwith a mouthfsurrounding an L shaped frame,'ofY iinner cloth lining therefor, a strip of sole leather bent upon itself with a spacing strip therebetween to forni aninverted U shaped stitching strip adapted to abutt against the innerside of the depending frame portion, a binder strip secured to said depending frame portion with said stitching strip secured therebetween, said bag body having its marginal edge stitched tothe creased edge of Said stitching strip flush with the outer surface of said frame.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
WILLIAM FINKELSTEIN.
