No. 258,317 1 Claim. (Cl. -335) My invention relates to blanket covers in general and in particular to a blanket cover which is provided with a concealed closing means, such as a zipper or the like and a pleat concealing it, thus forming an envelope closing.
Known blanket covers are provided with zippers or other closing means which extend exteriorly of one edge of the cover. Such a construction not only detracts from the appearance of the cover but is, in some respects conducive to discomfort while in use. When the blanket and its cover are displaced during the nights sleep by the natural tossing about of the sleeper, the exposed metallic zipper may come in contact with the sleepers body, causing discomfort to the person asleep or even abrasions of the skin. Furthermore, the exposed zipper itself may be snagged or damaged, thus necessitating repair.
It is therefore an important object of the invention to obviate the above disadvantages by providing a novel blanket cover in which the zipper or other closing means are concealed by a pleat.
Another object of the invention is to provide a novel blanket cover which is attractive in appearance.
A further object of the invention is to provide a novel blanket cover which is simple in construction and manufacture and may be produced at a reasonable cost.
Other objects and a fuller understanding of the invention may be had by referring to the following description and claim taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing.
It should be understood, however, these are given by way of llustration and not of limitation, and that various changes in the details, form and arrangement of the parts may be made without departing from the scope of the invention.

FIG. 1 is a perspective view, partly in cross-section of the blanket cover according to the invention,
FIG. 2 is a fragmentary plan view of the blanket cover showing the pleat partly lifted and FIG. 3 is a partial cross-sectional perspective view of the blanket cover.
Referring now to the drawing in detail the blanket cover assembly, generally indicated by the numeral 10, comprises a length of fabric 11 defined by longitudinal side edges 12, a top end edge 13 and a bottom end edge 14. The fabric is formed as a shorter upper panel 15 and a longer lower panel 16 by means of a fold 18. The lower panel 16 is folded at 17 to form a pleat 21 which extends over the free edge of the upper panel 15. Longitudinally extending folded edges 19 of the panels 15 and 16 are joined together by means of stitching 29 to form an elongated flat bag-like assembly. The panel 21 is formed with a folded under edge 22 to form a narrow pleat and provided with a transverse stitch 24 which goes through the panel from its outer side edges to the respective ends 30, 32 of Zipper 23 which extends part of the way only of the width of the panels to form a partial opening in the blanket cover, as may be seen in FIG, 2. The opening is used to insert or remove a blanket. One side of the zipper 34 is secured, to the pleat fold 21, so that the pleat overlies it, as shown in FIGS. 2 and 3. The other side 36, of the zipper is secured to panel 15 by means of stitching 2d. The above described construction thus forms a central compartment 27 for receiving a blanket B.
It will be appreciated that other means for detachably fastening the pleat 21 to the panel 15 may be employed, without departing from the inventive idea or limiting its scope. For example, a plurality of spring fasteners, buttons or the like may be used. Furthermore, instead of using a transversely extending pleat, a longitudinally or diagonally disposed pleat may be used.
The invention having thus been described, what is claimed and desired to be secured by Letters Patent of the United States of America is:
A blanket cover adapted to receive a blanket therewithin, comprising, a length of fabric folded transversely into a shorter upper oblong panel provided with a free substantially transverse stiff edge and a lower longer oblong panel joined together at their respective longitudinally extending edges, said lower longer panel having another free substantially stiff transverse edge formed as a narrow pleat folded over the transverse free edge of said upper panel, a zipper assembly disposed under said pleat, said zipper assembly extending part way of the pleat and being secured to said pleat and to the respective part of said free edge of the upper panel, and stitching securing the remaining part of said pleat to the corresponding remaining part of said upper panels transverse edge said substantially stiff transverse edge serving to protect said zipper.
