SETRAK Gr. EGHIAN, OF OGDEN, UTAH.
BOOK-HOLDER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SETRAK G. EGHIAN, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Ogden, in the county of Weber, State of Utah, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Book-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a holder which may be produced in artistic form from a single piece of fiat metal and which will hold a book securely in open position. The holder is adaptable especially to large and heavy volumes.
In the drawingsFigure 1 is a perspective view of the holder, and Fig. 2 a view of the same with a book in position.
The holder is formed preferably from a single piece of stifi' sheet-metal and consists of the two principal members 1 bent on the line 2, substantially at right angles to each other, although this angle may be considerably varied. The edges of the members 1 are formed with deep concave curves 3, to accommodate the lower edges of the book covers. The curvature of the back 4 accommodates the book back and wings or rests 5 bent at a divergent angle to the side members support the upper parts of the book covers. At the front of the holder, members 1 are upwardly curved and terminate in elliptical portions or fingers 6 twisted at an angle to the side members so as to come in front of and lie against the leaves of the book. The wings 5 and the fingers 6 thus form rests for the book.
The manner in which the book is placed in the holder and held by it will be obvious from the foregoing description and inspection of the drawing.
In some cases strips 7 may be provided connecting with the side members 1 at approximately the bottom of curved portions 3. These strips are bent to a horizontal position and may be connected by rivet 8. When these strips are provided the edges of the book covers rest upon them so that the book is securely supported without danger of cutting the covers which might occur if they rested simply on the edges of the side members. This connection of strips 7 also forms a brace which retains the side members of the holder in proper relation. At the bottom the side members may be flanged Specification of Letters Patent.

1. A bookholder formed of sheet, metal having side portions arranged substantially at right. angles to each other so as to form a recess to receive a book back, a portion at the upper ends of the members adapted to support the book covers and fingers extending upward from the front ends of the side members to engage the leaves of the book.
2. A book holder formed of a single piece of sheet. metal having side portions bent substantially at right angles to each other so as to form a recess to receive a book back, wings extending divergently from the upper ends of the members to support the book covers, the upper edges of the side members having a concave curve to receive the lower edges of the book covers, and fingers extending up from the front ends of the side members and bent at an angle to the members to engage the leaves of the book.
3. A book holder comprising side members arranged substantially at right angles to each other having rests and adapted to receive an open book, the side members being provided with horizontally arranged strips to receive the lower edges of the book covers.
A. A book holder comprising side members arranged substantially at right angles to each other having rests and adapted to receive an open book, the side members being provided with horizontally arranged strips, said strips being connected together, forming a support for the bottom edges of the book covers.
5. A book holder comprising side members arranged at an angle to each other to form a recess to receive a book back, a portion at the upper ends of the members adapted to support the book covers, fingers extending upward from the lower ends of the side members to engage the leaves of the book, and horizontally arranged strips between the side members to support the lower edge of the book.
6. A book holder comprising side members arranged at an angle to each other to form a recess for the reception of a book back, there being a portion at the upper end of the members adapted to support the book covers, and the edges of the side members Patented Mar. 15, 1910.
