Description

I H. S. DRUNK. NON-REFILLABLE BOTTLE. APPLIOATION FILED DEG.14, 1909.
Patented Mar. 15, 1910.
g g i UNITED STATES PATENT @FFTQR.
HENRY S. GRONK, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
NON-REFILLABLE BOTTLE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY S. CnoNK, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York city, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Non-Refillable Bottles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in non-refillable bottles and is designed particularly to construct a bottle of this type and character which will be in expensive and easy to manufacture.
WVith the above and other objects in view this invention consists of the construction, combination and arrangement of parts all as hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein: I
Figure 1 is a central section of a bottle constructed in accordance with the present invention provided with its improved clo sure; Fig. 2 is a central transverse section of the closure; Fig. 3 is a modification of the construction of the neck of the bottle.
Reference being had to the drawings, A indicates the bottom portion of the bottle provided with the neck B, said neck having the passage 1 therein. At the point where the passage 1 opens into the body portion of the bottle, the same is reduced by the inwardly extending flange or shoulder 2, through which extends the opening 3. The closure adapted to reciprocate in this opening 3 comprises a conical member 4 having the base 5 thereof tapered, and the apex pierced by the transverse opening 6. Formed on the base 5 are the downwardly projecting arms 7, said arms being spaced apart sufiiciently to permit the lock bar 8 to be pivoted therebetween at their lower extremities. This lock bar has an opening 9 formed at one extremity in such a manner that a string or like member may be passed through the opening 6 of the closure and through the former in such a manner that the same is retained against the stem or arms 7. This construction permits the closure to be low- Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed December 14, 1909.
Serial No. 532,980.
ered into the opening 3 of the flange or shoulder 2 after which the lock bar is permitted to drop and the string withdrawn, thus permanently securing the closure within the opening 3.
It will be seen from the foregoing that the weight of the closure 4.- retains the same within the opening 3 and will not permit any liquid to be poured past the same into the bottle. It will also be seen that upon tilting the bottle the liquid contained therein may flow freely past the closure at.
The modification shown in Fig. 8 com prises a bottle having the body portion A with the neck B formed thereon. The neck of the bottle adjacent the body portion has a depression 10 therein forming the inwardly extending shoulder 11, said shoulder surrounding an opening 3 in which recipro' cates the closure illustrated in Fig. 1.
To provide a strengthening means and brace for the reduced portion 10 of the neck, a ring 13 is fused to the bottle and to the neck over the part 12, thus completely covering the reduced portion and increasing the stability and strength of the bottle.
Having thus described my invention, what is claimed as new is:
A device of the class described comprising a body portion, a neck formed on said body portion having a passage therein, said neck being provided at its lower end withan inwardly extending flange forming a contraction of said passage, and a valve adapted to reciprocate in said passage consisting of a conical member having a transverse opening piercing its apex, a pair of downwardly extending arms formed on the base of said conical member, and a lock bar pivoted be tween said arms having an opening at one extremity thereof, as and for the purpose set fortl In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
