To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that l, JAMES YV. MILLS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Flat Lick, in the county of Knox and State of Kentucky, have ii vented certain new and useful lmprovements in Pencil-Holders, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in what may be termed combined pencil holders and postage stamp receptacles, and the like.

Said invention consists of certain instrumentalities substantially as hereinafter fully disclosed and pointed out by the claims, whereby a pencil or pencils may be conveniently carried upon the person, otherwise than in the pocket, as may be also postage stamps; also the name-address in stereotype form, with an accompanying inking pad, as in providing for the impromptu lninting of the name-address; said invention also being capable of use as a means for displaying a sjinbol or insignia of any organization of a fraternal or other character.

ln the accompanying drawing illustrating the preferred form of my invention-igure l, a front view thereof. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a vertical :ansverse section produced in a line passing thro-ugh one of the postage stamp receptacles or pockets. Fig. et is a view, with the closure elevated or disposed as in open position.

ln carrying out my invention, l emplo),r a suitable receptacle l preferably rectangular or oblong in general. outline having a closure or lid 2 attached by means of a hinge u and adapted to be held in closed position by means of a suitable spring-catch or clasp 2% fixed to said receptacle. Said receptacle may contain the naine-address in stereotype forni and an inking pad arranged to he carried by the closure or lid, as commonly practiced for like utensils, as in providing for printing such name-address; or said recepf tacle may be utilized for other like purposes.

At the ends of the receptacle l are suitably secured tubular spring-clasps or sockets el. for conveniently holding a pencil or pencils as in carrying the same upon the person otherwise than in the pocket. Suitable compartments or pockets 5, preferably two, are provided upon the rear side of the receptacle l for readily receiving and containing postage stamps and the like. Also upon the rear side of the receptacle 1 is suitably secured, as by soldering, brazing or in any other manner, a double bail-like bent wire forming a clamp 7, the intermediate upstanding loop or tongue 8 thereof being effective for its application to the shank of a vest or coat button as one way of readily or conveniently carrying the holder upon the garment. Also it will be noted that, by reason of the bail-like contour of said clamp, it is adapted to be readily caught over the top edge of the vest pocket, if it be preferred to so attach the device. in applying the device as last described, z'. e. to the topedge of the vest or coat pocket, a prong or pointed stiff wire member or finger 9 suitably secured as by soldering or otherwise to the back of the receptacle l, intermediate of the bail-formations of the clamp 7, and within-the plane of the tongue 8, is also adapted to engage the material of the vest or coat and thus coperatie with said clamp for the retention of the device in effective position. Upon the front part of the receptacle or holder may be suitably displayed a symbol. or insignia of any organization of a fraternal or like character, as indicated.

rlliis device it will be noted is exceedingly simple, economical of manufacture, quickly applied for use and of great convenience for its intended purpose.
