UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY 1V1. HOLTGREWE, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
CLAMPING DEVICE FOR FURNITURE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, I'IENRY M. Hot/ronnwn, a citizen of the United States, and resident of St. Louis, Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clamping Devices for liurniture, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improved clamping device for furniture, and has for its object to provide means for detachably securing the adjacent parts of furniture together.
In the drawingsFigure 1 is a perspective view of the upper and interior portion of a cupboard .showing the device of my invention in place. Fig. 2 is an enlarged perspective view of the blocks employed in the device of my invention, showing the clamp in place. Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail view showing the blocks employed in my invention in section, and the clamp in side elevation. Fig. 4: is an enlarged perspective view of the clamp employed in the device of my invention. Fig. 5 is an enlarged fragmental plan view of one of the ends of said clamp in contact with a block, the latter shown in section.
As shownin the drawings, I employ a metallic clamp 6 having a flat main body section 7 and the curved end portions 8-8 bent in opposite directions with reference to the body section 7 said end portions SS being concaved longitudinally as illustrated in Fig. 4. For the reception of and engagement with one of the end portions 8 of the clamp 6, I provide the block 9 provided with the groove 10 upon one of its sides; the block 9 being illustrated in Fig. 1 as being secured in place upon the inner face of the top 11 of the cupboard 12. In alinement with the block 9 I provide the block 13 which is tapered from end to end and its Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed September 18, 1909.
Patented Feb. 15, 1910. Serial No. 518,412.
lower edge provided with the bevel 1 L adapted to receive and hold one of the end portions 8 of the clamp (3. The groove 10 being of uniform depth throughout its length and being parallel with the plane of the upper surface of the block 9, receives the upper end portion 8 of the clamp 6 slidably (see Fig. The bevel lat of the block 13 being inclined, the clamp'fi is driven into place (see Figs. 1, 2 and 3) until it has a rigid engagement with the blocks 9 and 13.
The contour of the end portions 8 of the clamp 6 (see Figs. 4 and 5) has as its function to prevent the blocks 9 and 13 from being injured by the inner edge of the end portions 8 of the clamp (3 as said clamp (3 is being driven into place; the central portion of the end portion 8 only (see Fig. 5) being in contact with the blocks.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to have secured to me by the grant of Letters Patent, is:
A clamping device for furniture comprising a metallic clamp having a flat body portion terminated in oppositely and outwardly bent end portions, which end portions are concaved from end to end longitiulinally in combination with a block provided with a groove upon one of its faces to slidably receive one of the end portions of said clamp, and a block provided with a tapering beveled edge adapted to receive the other end portion of said clamp, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification, in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
HENRY M. HOLIGREVE.
