Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom, it may concern:

Be it known that I, RICHARD ALBERT SEA- BORN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sonyea, in the county of Livingston and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Sandpaper-Holders, of which the following is a specification.

This invention has relation to sandpaperholders; and it consists in the novel construction and arrangement of its parts, as hereinafter shown and described.

The object of the invention is to provide a durable holder of light construction, capable of holding sandpaper or other abrading substance for the purpose of smoothing or polishing moldings or other woodwork having either plane or irregular surfaces.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the holder with the abrading material applied. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of one of the clamps for securing the abrading material to the holder. Fig. 3 is a section taken on the line 3 3 of Fig. 1, showing the clamp applied to the holder. Fig. 4 is an end View showing the holder ap plied to surfaces (shown in dotted line) of different shapes.

The holder 1 is made from a single blank struck in such manner that the different sides of the holder present plane and irregular surfaces adapted to fit over woodwork or moldings of different designs, thus providing a single holder capable of performing the functions heretofore generally performed by several holders.

The holder is so shaped that the several sides present surfaces concaved or conveXed to any desired degree or of any peculiar shape to conform to the surface of the articles to be smoothed or polished.

The abrading substance 2 may be applied to any portion of the face of the holder and is attached thereto by means of the clamping means l, which is usually a metallic strip provided with the end clips, one of the said end clips being provided with a projecting portion 5 to enable the operator to quickly and easily release the said clamp for the purpose of changing the sandpaper or abrading material.

Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A holder for abrading material, comprising a hollow backing, presenting a plurality of faces, and a means for securing abrading material to any face of said holder.

2. A holder for abrading material, comprising a hollow backing formed from a single blank, presenting a plurality of faces, and a means for securing abrading material to any face of the said holder.

3. A holder for a sheet of abrading material" comprising a hollow backing presenting faces of different shape and a strip provided with a clamping means for securing abrading material to said holder.
