a citizen of the United States, residing at Montro'sc, in the county of Susquehanna, State of Pennsylvania, have invented 'cer tain new and useful Improvements in Safety- Razors; and I do hereby declare the following to a be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as. will enableothers appertains to as the blade is worn away the guard plates can be adjusted in accordance with the change of form ofthe blade.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consistsin certain novel features of construction as hereafter shown and described and then specifically pointed out in the claims, and in the drawings illustrative of the preferred "embodiment of the invention, Figure 1 is a side elevation of the improved device. Fig. 2 is a plan view ofthesame. Fig. 3 is an end elevation. Fig. 4 is a section enlarged on the line t-1- of Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the base meniher detached. Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the blade detached. the tun-part guard plate in perspective and detached. Fig. 8 is a perspective view of the clamp plate detached. Fig. 9 is aperspective view of a modified form of the twopart guard plate. Fig. 10 is a perspective view of the modified form of the clam plate which will be employ-ed with the moditied form of-the guard plate shown in Fig. 9. The ii'nproved device comprises abase plate or member 10, preferably diamond shaped and with a concaved upper face'and a convened lower face and provided'with upwardly directed studs 11--12 at the ends and a threaded stud 13 extending vertically from the center of the base plate. By this simple meari'sit will be obvious thatthe-plates 18-19 may be adjusted toward and away. from each other to conform to the position of the cutting edges of the blade 14 by simply lo0sening the handle 28 which will release the blades and permit the requisite adjustment. Thus when the blade It requires regrindin the plates 18-19 may be readily adjusted to tiechange of location of the cutting edges, as will be obvious. In event of one of the cutting edges becoming nicked, the plate can be ground to remove the 11icl ,'and the plates 1S19 then adjusted to a still greater extent to locate the fingers 22-23 in the proper position relative to the change of form of the newly ground cutting edge. With this improveddevice ifthe nick be near one end of the blade, the blade may be reground at an incline, or just sufficient, to remove the nick, and thus avoid the necessity for cutting away the uninjured portion of the blade, and the at a correspondin incline, the slots 2-7, and the pins2 l-25 eing sufficiently loose tt permit this slight oblique adjustment.
In Figs. 9 and. 10 a slight modification in the construction is shown coiisisting in arranging the pins 2425 in staggered relations, or out of alinement transversely, and forming the slots 27 likewise in staggered relations. This modification in the. construction of the device may be advantageous under certain circumstances, but it will-be p plate A guard plate adjusted obvious that this slight modified form does not constitute a departure from the invention,'or sacrifice an of its advantages, as the operationofthe, evice produces the same result inboth forms of the device.
What is claimed is A 1. A safety razor comprising a base member having a threaded stud, a, blade bearing upon said base and over said "stud, a twopart guard member-hearing upon said blade and provided with guide studs, a clamp plate bearing upon said guard plates and provided with slot-s through-which said guide studs extend, and a handle having a threaded aperture engaging said-guide stud and clamping the parts together.
