CLOTHES-CLAMP FOR BEDSTEADS.
' Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 21, 1909.
Application filed June 3, 1909. Serial No. 500,014.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FANNIE L. TAYLOR, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Tyler, in the county of Smith and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clothcs- Clamps tor Bedsteads, of which the following is a specilication.
lily invention relates to devices for holding the bedclothes at the foot of a metal bedstead, and has for its object the provision of a bar adapted to lie between the mattress and the spring and provided with detach able members to engage the spring and a bar removably secured to the lirstmentioned bar, between which the clothes are clamped.
its is well known to housekeepers, the modern metal bedsteads have the drawback oi. not holding the bed-clothes when tucked in at the foot of the bed, and the purpose of my invention is to obviate this and provide means for holding the clothes so that they cannot be pulled out when the bed is in use.
My invention will be described in detail hereinafter and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is an end view of a bed showing my invention in use; Fig. 2, a top plan view of a fragment of the bed, showing the mattress and bed-clothes partly broken away and the clamp in position; Fig. 3, a detail view of the clamp; Fig. &, a detail View of the removable bar, and Fig. 5, an end view of the clamp mounted on the bed-spring bar, which is shown in section.
in the drawings similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout all of the views.
A indicates a bedstead, B the bed-spring, (l the mattress, and D the bed-clothes.
As stated above, my clamp is to be used for holding the bed-clothes D at the foot of the bed, and consists of a bar 1, equal in length to the width of the mattress C, and having a plurality of loops 2 secured thereto with hooks 3, pivotally secured to said loops.
t indicates screw-bolts pivotally secured to the ends of bar 1 and having thumb-nuts 5 mounted thereon.
(5 indicates a rod having a hole 7 in one of its ends to engage one of the bolts 4t and a notch S in its other end to engage the other bolt when in a clamping position.
In use the device is secured to spring bar 1) at the foot of the bed by means of hooks 8, and the bolt l, being detached "from the notch 8 in rod 6, said rod is swung to one side. The bed-clothes D are then placed on red 1 and the rod 6 placed in position on the clothes so that bolt 4: engages notch 8, and the thumb-nuts 5 screwed down on the bolts so as to securely clamp the clothes. As the rods 1 and (l extend the full length of mattress C, it will be apparent that the clothes will. be securely held along the full width of the bed, as though tucked in, and the danger of the clothes becoming loosened obviated.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim isin combination with a bed, and a spring on the bed, having a bar at its end, a clamp for holding the bed-clothes on the bed consisting of a rod having screwbolts pivotally secured to its ends, another rod having a hole in one end to engage one oi the bolts auda notch in the other end to engage the other bolt, the bed-clothes clamped between said rods, the relative positions oi? said rods when in a clamping position being adjustable by the screw-bolts aforesaid to accommodate ditlerent thicknesses of bed-clothes, loops secured to one of the rods, and extending laterally ot the clamping surfaces oi? the two rods, and hooks pivotally secured to the loops and engaging the bar on the spring, substantially as shown and described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
FANNIE L. TAYLOR. Witnesses NELLIE M. COOK, H. B. MARSH.
