UNITED STATES MENNING A. DEIMEL, OF
PATENT OEEICE.
HERKIMER, NEW YORK.
BED.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 450,73*?, dated April 21, 1891.
Application filed November 14, 1890, Serial No. 371,386. (No model.)
.T0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MENNING A. DEIMEL, of Herkimer, in the county of Herkimer and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Beds; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in beds.
In the drawings which accompany and form part of this specification, and in which similar letters and figures of reference refer to corresponding parts in the several figures, Figure 1 shows a perspective view of my improved bed, one end of the frame being detached from the supporting-legs and end pieces. Fig. 2 shows asection of the improved fastening between the bed-bottom and the end piece and supporting-legs. Fig. 3 Is a central vertical section of the parts shown in Fig. 2, the two parts being separated. Fig. 4 is a top view of the parts shown in Fig. 2. Fig. 5 shows a top view of the bed-bottom cornerpiece and a cross-section of the leg on line A B of Fig. 3.
Referring to thereference-numerals marked on the drawings, 1 indicates the bed-bottoni, which is formed, preferably, of wire-work stretched between the end bars 2 2. Bars 2, which are round and preferably formed of gas-pipe, are secured in bed-bottom cornerpieces 3 by passing into or through ring 4 and having pin 5 passing through suitable pin-holes in the ring 4: and through suitable corresponding openings in the end bar 2. The end bar 2 is provided with a series of holes ct ce, dsc., so that by applying a pipewrench to the end bar 2 and removing pin 5 and turning the end bar 2 the tension of the fabric bottom may be adj usted. Then a suitable tension is attained, the pin 5 is inserted through the holes a of the end bar, which may then coincide with the pin-holes in the ring 4. The bed-bottom corner-pieces 3 are mounted upon side rails 6 by having the side rails 6, which are preferably of gas-pi pe, engaged within socket 7 of the bed-bottom corner-piece. The bed-bottom corner-piece 3 is also provided with a semioircular groove or half-sleeve 8,adapted to receive the bed-post 9, which is preferably made of gas-pipe. Oentrally located within the bottom of semioir cular groove S are hooks lO 10, adapted to be passed through slotted openings 1l ll in the side of the bed-post and engaging the post fromtheinside. rlhe hooks lOare preferably formed integral with the bed-bottom cornerpiece 3.
That l claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination, in a bed, of the round tubular legs having slotted openings l1 ll therein, a bedbottom composed of cross-bars 2 and side rails 6, the bed-bottom fabric attached to the cross-bars 2, and the cornerpieces 3,11aving a semicircular half-sleeve S adapted to engage on the leg over the openings ll l1, the hooks 10 10 in the semicircular half-sleeve S, adapted to engage the leg, the plane socket 7, adapted to receive the end of the side rail and cross-bar securing ring 4, located transversely to socket 7 in the angle between the halfsleeve S and the socket 7 above the socket 7, and the removable securing-pins 5, substantially as set forth.
In witness whereof I have affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
MENNING A. DEIMEL.
Witnesses:
MICHAEL FOLEY, S. W. HENOCKBURG.
