Application filed August 20, 1908.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, AUGUST REINEKE, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, and residing at Chicago, in thecounty of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Supplemental Seats, of which the following is a complete specification.
This invention relates to improvements in supplemental seats and more particularly to a supplemental seat for stools, chairs and the like.
It is ofttimes desirable to provide a supplemental seat for piano stools and other stools or chairs, especially where such stools are equipped with non-upholstered seats which have become marred or worn to such an extent that they cannot be satisfactorily refinished.
The object of this invention is to provide a supplemental seat for stools, chairs etc, which is adapted to be removably engaged over the stool or chair seat and completely cover the same.
It is a further object of the invention to provide a cheap and simple supplemental seat adapted to fit over the permanent seat and grip beneath the same so as to hold itself rigidly in place and which may be at tached to either old stools or new ones especially designed for that purpose.
The invention consists of the matters hereinafter described in the specification and more particularly pointed out and defined in the appended claims.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a vertical, central section of a piano stool seat provided with a supplemental seat embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the supplemental seat, showing the under side thereof.
As shown in said drawings: A indicates the ordinary seat of a piano stool, to the under side of which is attached the pedestal screw a in the usual or any preferred manner. Said seat as shown is round though it may obviously be of any preferred shape, and adapted to fit over the same is the sup plemental seat which is indicated as a whole by B. Said supplemental seat may be of any preferred construction but, as shown, it comprises a bottom member Z) of wood or other suitable material of a size and shape equal to that of the seat A, and which is preferably covered with upholstering Z) of Specification of Letters Patent.

any preferred kind. Engaged to the edge of the bottom 6 and extending downwardly therefrom sufficiently to cover the seat A is a flange or band Z2 of metal or other pre ferred material which may be secured to the bottom Z) in any preferred manner but which, as shown, is attached by means of large headed tacks b wardly beneath said bottom adjacent the inner side of said band is a plurality of spring clips C, each of which comprises a resilient strip of metal attached at its upper end to the edge of the bottom and the lower end of which is bent inwardly and then outwardly to provide a hook 0 adapted to engage beneath the seat A when the supplemental seat is in place.
The operation is as follows: When the supplemental seat is being placed over the seat A the hooked portions 0 of the clips tend to straighten out as they are passing the seat A, and when they have passed beneath said seat they again resume their natural positions and hook beneath the seat and act to hold the supplemental seat in place. When it is desired to remove the supplemental seat it is only necessary to pull upwardly thereon when the clip hooks will be withdrawn from beneath the seat A.
Obviously a supplemental seat constructed in accordance with my invention may be quickly attached to or detached from a stool or chair seat, and obviously many details of form and construction may be Varied without departing from the principles of my invention.
I claim as my invention:
1. In a device of the class described the combination with a bottom member of upholstering thereon, a peripheral flange on said member, and a plurality of spring clips secured at their upper ends between said member and said flange and extending downwardly from said member in close contact with said flange, and each being provided near its lower end with an inwardly curved portion adapted to be straightened when forced against said flange.
2. In a device of the class described the combination with a seat of a bottom member adapted to overlie the same, upholstering on said member, a peripheral flange on saidmember extending below said seat and out of contact therewith, and a plurality of spring clips secured at their upper ends be Extending downtween said member and said flange and eX- scribed my name in the presence of two Wit/ tending downwardly between said flange and nessesi said seat, each cli having an inwardly w v 1 7' curved portion neai its lower end adapted I 'AUUUbr REINERE 5 to be flattened against the flange When being Witnesses:
moved past said seat. 0. E. A. BALZER, In Witness whereof I have hereunto sub JOHN HAUsER.
