Description

(No Model.) G. H. DE G. HARRIS.
RUG FASTENER.
No. 543,090. Patented July 23, 1895.
.Mlnesses. egg/225 UNITED STATES ?ATENT OFFICE.
GRACE HEARN DE GRASSI HARRIS, OF TORONTO, CANADA.
RUGEFASTENER.
S1-EGIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 543,090, dated July 23, 1895.
Application filed January 23, 1895. Serial No. 536.473- (No model) To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, "GRACE HEARN DE GRASSI HARRIS, trained nurse, of the city of Toronto, in the county of York, in the Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rug- Fasteners, of which the following is a specication.
My invention relates to improvements in rug-fasteners; andthe object of the invention is to design such a fastener that the rug may be securely held down at the edges and yet may be readily removed when desired, and conveniently replaced in position. v
Figure l is a perspective view of the preferred form of fastener, showing the upper and lower disks separated. Fig. 2 is a perspective view ,showingthe upper and lower disk connected or hinged together, a portion of the rug being also shown so as to exhibit the position of the fastener immediately before the top disk is pushed down into position. Fig. 3 is a section through the fastener and edge of the rug, showing it secured down in position.
In the drawings like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure.
A is the upper disk, and B is the lower disk. The upper disk is provided with a downwardly extending curled lip 0,, which is designed to be inserted into a slot b, formed in .the lower disk at the inner edge of the' upwardly-turned lip 17.
a are two prongs, -which are preferably formed out of the upper disk and are turned downwardly as indicated.
, b are two holes correspondingly placed and designed to receive the ends of the prongs a. b are two prongs stamped or formed up from the lower disk B, and depending as shown.
The prongs a and b instead of being formed for stamped up out of their respective disks might be soldered into holes in the disk,
or otherwise secured.
It is intended that the lower disk should be left permanently secured to the floor. All the upper disks, however, may be swung from on top of the edge of the rug and withdrawn from the slot b in the lower disk, whereupon the rug may be taken out and shaken. As the upper disks will be removed there will be no obstructions on the floor which will practically interfere with the free use of the room when the rug is removed.
The rug may be replaced in position when desired very readily, and the tongue at of the upper disk of the fastener may be inserted into slot 1) and pressed down, so that the prongs pass through the rug, and, if necessary, into the holes b in the lower disk, thereby securing the rug again in position;
What I claim as my invention is In combination, the lower disk having a horizontally extending lip, the upper disk removably hinged thereto by a depending tongue, and the prongs depending from said upper disk for holding the rug in position, substantially as described.
