Description

M. G. F AGAN.
Cooking, Stove.
. Patented Aug. 31, 18-69.
Wa'lnmi'saa amt arm I MICHEL G. FAGAN, OF TROY,
NEW YoRK.
. Letters Patent No. 94,193, dated August 31, 1869.
IMPROVEMENT m cooKme-srovns.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
'To all whom it may concern:
Be itknowu that I, MICHEL G. FAGAN, of Troy, in the county of Rensselaer, and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in the Construction of (looking-Stoves; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanyingdrawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 is a perspective view boiler I on top, over back chamber.
Figure 2 is a perspective view, with the back of the of a stove, with stove removed, showing the chamber H, flue-damper M, and flue-strips.
Figure 3 showsthe boiler I, with sink K.
Figure 4 is a transverse vertical section, lengthwise the stove. Y
A represents the top plate of the stove.
B, the top oven-plate.
O, the back chamber-plate.
D, the back'oven-plate.
E, the bottom oven-plate.
F, the bottom of stove.
G, the. exit-pipe.
H, back chamber.
I, boiler.
- J, opening from top of stove to chamber.
K, 'sink, or boiler, or tank.
L refers to red line, showing the mode of converting the back chamber into a fire-box.
M shows the flue-damper.
G shows a continuation of smoke-pipe.
Figure 5 is a vertical section, showing ,the back chamber H, position of flue-damper M, up-and-down fines, and place of exit in centre or up-flue, and boiler, with sink I and K.
Figure 6 is a longitudinal section of the back part of the stove, showing how the connections would be made with the exit -pipe when the back chamber should be converted into a fire-box,-by the introduction of a pipe near the top of the stove A, at G".
1 represents the fire-box. ,the flue-damper.
O O, the passage for the products of combustion from the front chamber or fire-box.
Figure 7 is ahorizontal section, above the top ovenplate, showing the locality of the back chamber H and flue-damper M.
The nature of my invention consists in the construeers having deep pits or sinks, without interfering with the fines.
It also consists in the making, if required, a second fire-box, for heating of water, or boiling. The top of the stove being straight, and the exit-pipe taken out of theback, leaves the top clear, and gives more room on the stove without increasing the length of the sides.
' Taking 'the exit-pipe out of the back, enables it to be passed through a warming-closet, without interfering with any arrangement on top of the stove.
' I construct this stove in several parts, different from the usual style.
As stores are generally made, the top oven-plate B extends from the back of the front fire-box to, and on a straight line to the back flue-strips, they (the fluest-rips) being carried up to it, except the centre-one, which generally goes through the top, by the aid of flange connections.
In this'invention, (if the stove should be of the size of an ordinary four-hole stove,) the top oven-plate would only be of the width of about the holesback of the fire-box.
The bottom oven-plate E is of the usual size and shape, as would be in ordinary stoves.
The back oven-plate D is not carried up any faster than the bottom of the back chamber, whose depth is regulated by the plate 0.
The back flue-strips also terminate at the same point, as shown in the back view, at M, fig. 2.
The exit-pipe G is taken out of the centre flue, through the back of the stove, thereby leaving the top of the stove clear from all obstructions, and giving more working-room, without increasing the'body of the stove in size.
I am aware that stoves have been made, where the back top corner of the oven has been out off in difi'erent forms, but they have in all cases conformed the top of the stove to it, dropping and making a break in the top to correspond with the depression made in the oven.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, i s-- A diving-flue cooking-stove, having a straight top, A, with chamber- H in back part, underneath said top, and above the oven, in combination with the exit-pipe it and damper M, for the purposes described and set orth.
MICHEL G. ,FAGAN.
