F. M. BAKER.
Cooking Stove.
No. 50,765. I Patented Oct. 31, 1865- IFGJc E-K 5 M (Gray N, PEYERS, FhOIO-lilhagnphzr. Washinmnm O. C.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
F. M. BAKER, OF SOUTH READING, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO CHARLES JORDAN, OF SAME PLACE.
IM PROVEMENT IN COOKING-STOV-ES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 50,765, dated October 31, 1865.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FREDERIC H. BAKER, of South Reading, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful 1m provemeut in Cooking- Stoves; and I do hereby declare the same to be fully'described in the following specification and represented in the accompanying drawing, which denotes alongitudinal section of a stove provided with my invention.
The nature of said invention consists in the arrangement and combination of an auxiliary oven, its bottom and back smoke-flue, and damper with the main oven of a cooking-stove, its back flue and dampers, or with the same and a sunken flue'space for heating a watervessel placed on or over such space.
The drawing exhibits an ordinary cookingstove provided with an oven, A, and flues B C,
for leading the smoke and heated volatile products of combustion from the lire-place P either against the bottom or top parts of the oven.
An auxiliary oven, G, is arranged in rearot' the main oven, and an upright flue, F, placed between the two and opening out of the flue C and into a sunken space or chamber, I, disposed directly over the auxiliary oven. Covering the said sunken space isa water-heating vessel or tauk,K, which hasa pipe, L, leading vertically through it and opening out of the said space I.
Aflue, H, in continuation of the flue C, leads underneath the bottom of the auxiliary oven G and up along its rear side in manner as shown in the drawing. This flue H at its upper part opens into the space or chamber I, as shown at a, and, furthermore, it may be provided with an opening, I), at its upper end to lead into a short pipe-connection, 0, arranged thereon, the same being to enable a discharge-pipe to be fixed to the opening I).
If preferable, the hole I) may be closed and the discharge-pipe may be applied to the upper end of the pipe L.
The flue B leads into the space I, and has a damper, D, arranged within it at its junction with the flue F, such damper being so applied to the two flues as to be capable of closing either of them, one being closed while the other is open. Another damper, D, is arranged at the lowcr end of the flue F, and between the flues C and H there is a third damper, D. On raising the three dampers D I) D into vertical positions the smoke from the flue C will be caused to flow up the flue F between the two ovens and to pass into and through the space I, and thence through the pipe L or the openings to Z). Next, by turning the dampers D D down into horizontal positions the smoke will be forced through the flue H and into the space I, or through the opening b, in case the opening a be provided with a damper and such be closed. If desirable, there may be another damper, which may be placed in the direct draft-flue B, in which case, on heating the auxiliary oven, the damper D may be lowered across the upper end of the flue F and the dampers D D maybe opened. The smoke will then pass against the bottom, back, and top of the auxiliary oven, and will more orless flow into the flue F. v
When the smoke is caused to pass through the flue H the auxiliary oven Gr may be used for baking purposes, but when the damper D is closed and the smokeis made to pass through the flue F and into the chamber 1 the oven Gr will be heated to a less degree of temperature and may be employed as a warming-closet.
A stove constructed as above described will operate to excellent advantage, as the auxiliary oven may be employed either for baking or warming articles.
I do not claim a stove made with two ovens; but
What I claim as my invention is The above-described arrangement and combination of the auxiliary oven G and its smokefiue' H and damper D with the main oven A of a cooking-stove, and its discharge-fines C and F, and dampers D D, or with the same and the sunken flue-space I, for heating the water-vessel K, the whole being substantially as specified.
