UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM RESOR, OF CINCINN ATI, OHIO.
HEATING-sTovEs.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 58,477, dated October 2, 1866.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM REsoR, of Gincinnati, Hamilton county, Ohio, have invented a new and useful Heating-Stove; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification. Y
My invention relates to the class of woodburning stoves for heating purposes in which the smokeis conducted down the front, thence rearward beneath the tire-bed, and thence upward to the escape-pipe; and the object of the present improvement is to combine, with the advantages of compact and sightly construction, an effective and manageable application of the draft-air, and an adequate extent of heating-surfaces.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is an axially-divided perspective view ot' a stove embodying my improvements. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section at the line x x, Fig. l.
The bottom A and the top B may consist of oval plates of cast-iron, while the body O may consist of a single piece of sheet-iron bent into the form desired.
A partition, D, which rises vertically from the bottom plate, about two-thirds of .the height of the lire-chamber, forms, in conjunction with the adjacent portion of the body-- plate, a descending Hue, E, which discharges into a due, F, extending rearward under the re-bed, and terminating in a neck, G, for the reception of a-n external ascending line, H, whose upper end is secured in a collar, J, on the under side of the top plate, the upper side of which has the customary neck, I, for the escape-pipe.
The body-plate, a little above the .tire-bed and directly opposite the descending flue, is perforated with draft-apertures K, which are closed or opened at will by means of a register, L.
M is a door for insertion of the fuel. N is a damper which, being opened, permits the direct escape of the smoke into the chimney.
The top plate may be perforated at O, as shown, to receive any boiling or heating ves sel. P is an ash-door.
This invention is belived to combine more completely than heretofore some important desiderata of a woodburning stove. Its oval form, prolonged flue or smoke-pass:age, and external exit-pipe, While preventing a too rapid combustion, retain the heat in the stove, afford a large area of heating and radiating surfaces, and permit theuse of long cord-wood without unsightly bulk.
The draft-air,enterin g the stove on. the side diametrically opposite the descending Iiue, and as much below the mid-height thereof as the entrance of said tine is above it, is compelled before escaping, to pass entirely across the main body ot' the fire-chamber.
I cla-im herein as new and of my invention- The arrangement of oval firechamber A B C, interior descending flue, E, bottom Hue, F, neck Gr, external ascending flue, H, collar J, and registered draft-inlet K L, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony ot' which invention I hereunto set my hand.
