To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ALBERT M. PRESTON, a citizen of the United States, and residing at Broxton, in the county of Coffee and State of Georgia, have invented a certain new and useful llaist and Skirt Supporter, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

Among the objects which the present invention has in view are: to provide, a skirt and waist supporter which is at once simple in construction, durable and certain in operation; to provide a device of the character specied which will lie closely and snugly to the form; and to provide a device of the character specified which is neat and presentable in appearance.

One embodiment of the present invention is shown in the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device shown in its operative position on the human form; li'ig. 2 is a cross sectional view of the device in its folded or operative position; and Fig. 3 is a front view of the device shown in its open or inoperative position.

Having the objects stated above in view, the device consists in a fastening member shown as a safety pin 4, which is similar to the pins of ordinary construction, except that on one side there is projected a hinge member Over the hinge member 5, an extension 6 of a plate 7 is curled to form a hinge connection between the said pin and the said plate. Oppositely disposed to the curled extension 6 is a similar extension 8, that forms a similar connection with the projected side 9 of the frame-like link 10. The plate 7 constitutes an intermediate member hingedly connected to the pin 4 and the link 10, and is provided with serrated edges as shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings.

In dimensions the plate 7 is formed to pass through the opening of the link 10. At either of the ends of the longitudinal dimension of the link 10, there are secured plates 11 and 12, provided with curled extensions 13 and 14, which encompass the wire of the link 10, and the plates are further provided with extensions 15, 15. At the opposite end, the plates 11 and 12 are provided with slots to form loops to receive the tape 16, which' forms a belt, and may be of any desired and suitable material.

Having a device thus constructed, the

operation of the same is as follows: The initial step is to insert the pin 4 through the waist of the wearer. If desired, this att-achment may be somewhat permanent, it not being necessary to remove this supporter except when the waist is laundered. Then the skirt is raised to 'the proper position, it is drawn over the pin 4 and the plate 7, the hinged extension 6 of the pin extending downward, jwhile the 'plate is folded upward or to a position where the hinged extension 3 on the said plate is above the hinged extension 6. The skirt band covering the said plate, the link 10 is now turned down outside the skirt band. In this position the plates 11 and 12 'are rst drawn toward each other, the extensions 15, 15, of the said plates pointing inward toward the body of the wearer. When in this position the two plates are pressed against the body of the wearer, the extensions 15, 15, passing beyond the edge of the plate 7 and carrying the material of the skirt with them. The plates 11 and 12 are now pressed awayl from each other, turning on the hinge connections 13 and 14. This compels the extensions 15, 15, to swing toward each other and under the plate 7, carrying the material of the skirt with the said extensions and against the serrated edges of the plate. lVhen the plates 11 and 12 are drawn by the tightening of the tape 16 to the rounded shape of the waist, the travel of the extensions 15, 15, causes them to press upon the inner side of the plate 7 and to project the same slightly outward through the opening in the link frame 10, thereby producing in appearance a cloth covered buckle effect.

In removing the supporter, the operation above described is reversed. That is, the tapes 16 are loosened and the plates 11 and 12 are moved from the body of the wearer, and toward each other, swinging on the hinges 13 and 14, thereby carrying the extensions 15, 15 outward and away from the plate 7. When the plates 11 and 12 are moved sufficiently to permit the extensions 15, 15 to clear the plate 7, the link 10 is raised upward, swinging on the hinge 8 and thus freeing the skirt from engagement with the said link. The skirt may now be raised from the plate 7 and is free to be removed from the body of the wearer. If it is desired that the device shall be removed from the waist, this is accomplished by unfastening the safety pin 4.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

l. A Waist and skirt supporter, comprising a plate member adapted to be secured to the Waist and to underlie the skirt, a link member adapted to infold the said plate andskirt and cover the same, and belt securing members mounted on the said link member, having extensions adapted to protrude under the said plate When in operative position.

2. Awaist and skirt supporter, comprising a plate member having a fastening device mounted thereon adapted to be secured to the Waist, said plate having serrated edges, a link member adapted to infold said plate, and belt holding members mounted on the said link member, having extensions adapted to protrude under the said plate when in operative position.r
