Description
Dec. 29 1925' J. TIGERSTROM FOLDING CASE Filed June 14, 1921 77 z y zmuron ATTORNEY WITNESS:
Patented Dec. 29, 1925.
UNITED STATES JOSEPH TIGERSTR-OM, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
FOLDING CASE.
Application filed June 14, 1921. Serial No. 477,579.
Y 0 all whom it may concewi:
Be it known that I, J osnrrr TIGERSTROM, a citizen of Poland, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Folding Cases, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to folding cases and the principal object is to produce a device of this class which shall be simple of construction, cheap of manufacture and highly efficient for the purpose for which it is designed.
Another object is to produce a device of this kind in which the minimum number of securing means may be used and in'which the minimum amount of material may be used.
With these and other objects in view which will be more apparent as the specification proceeds, the invention resides in certain novel construction, and. combination and arrangement of parts, the essential fea tures of which are hereinafter fully described, are particularly pointed out in the appended claim and are illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a view of one form of my invention in a folded condition.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the same in a partially set up condition.
Figure 3, is a view of a second form of the invention in a completely set up condition.
Like characters of reference refer to like parts in all views.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the case or box comprises a single piece which is scored or otherwise hinged at various points so as to fold into the different wall elements. In the accompanying drawing, 10 represents the bottom wall, 11 the front, 12 the rear wall, 13 the top, 14 the ends and lithe front flap. The end walls 14 are preferably hinged to the rear wall 12 a slight distance from the ends thereof as shown and each is provided with one member 16 of a snap fastener. The inner face of the front wall 11 has hingedly secured to I it a pair of flaps 17 which are locked at a sufficient distance from the end margins of the front wall to fit inside the end walls 14 when the front wall 11 is moved to a vertical position. Each flap 17 is provided with a portion 18 of a snap fastener to register and co-operate with the corresponding member 16 of the respective endwall 14.
It is obvious that if desired any number of snap fasteners may be used to connect the members 14 and 17. A handle 19 of any desired construction may be secured to the case and a strap 20 is provided in the instance shown in Figures 1 and 2. This strap when placed around the central portion of the case will hold it in either folded or open condition.
In the form shown in Figure 8, the front flap 15 and the outer portion of the front wall 11 are provided with corresponding portions of snap fasteners 21 whereby the box is locked in open position, but these snap fasteners do not co-act to hold the box in folded position.
From inspection of Figure 1 it is suggested therein that the case is adapted to be folded first by folding the bottom 10 upon the front wall 11, thence the end walls 14 upon the rear wall 12 which is in turn folded upon the bottom wall 10, the top 13 is then folded upon the end walls 14 and the flap 15 secured by fastening means thereon and on the front wall 11.
It is thought that the operation of setting up and of folding the case is obvious from the above description and the drawing so that no further description thereof is given.
What is claimed as new is A folding case comprising a bottom wall, a front wall secured to the bottom wall at the longitudinal front edge thereof and adapted to be folded below the bottom wall, a rear wall secured to the bottom wall at the longitudinal rear edge thereof and adapted to be folded upon the bottom wall, end walls having their rear edges secured juncture of the bottom and rear walls when said Walls are arranged in folded position, flaps secured to the front wall adjacent each edge thereof, fastening means between the front flap and the front Wall and the flaps second mentioned and the end walls, and said fastening means being adapted to hold said Walls in assembled position.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my 20 signature.
JOSEPH TIGERSTROM.
