To all w'hom t may concern Be it" known that I, FRIEDRICH BRINCKMAN, of

Chester, in the county of Randolph, and State of Iliinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Washing-Machines; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full and correct description of the same, sufficient to enable others skilled in the machines to which my invention appertains, to fully understand and use the same, `reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which make part of this specification, and in which v Figure l is `a side elevation of my washing-machine;

Figure 2 is'a sectional view4 of one of the buckets; and Y Figure 3 is a sectional side View of the washing'- drum.

Like letters of reference indicate like parts in the several figures.

My invention consists in washing clothes by means of a rotaryldrum, provided on'the periphery of its in-' side with buckets or beaters, and operated by means of cog-wheels and a crank.

A,in the drawings, represents the drun1,Whch may be constructed of wood, in any. well-known way, and have its periphery bound with an iron band or bands, for strength, and provided with an opening for the admission of water, soap, and the clothes, which opening is closed by a suitable removable cover.

On the inside of the periphery of drum A, are Vsecured'buckets or beaters a, being provided atv their end, contingent to the periphery, with a small opening or notch, @which allows the water to escape completely from the drum, when the latter isv to be emp. tied.

B is the frame, in which the drum A rotates, and in a slot formed'in one side of l it, and secured on the shaft or trunnion C, of Idrum A,moves a cog-wheel, D, gearing'with a smaller cog-wheel, E, moving in the same slot, and operated byl a crank, F.

Clothes being placed in the drum A, together with water and soap,the drum is rotated by means of crank F and cog-wheels. E D. Y

The motion forces the water and clothes against the buckets, and by the agitation of the .water striking against the same, the clothes are cleansed.
