UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALBERT C. HENDERSON, 0F BUFFALO, NEW YORK.
BUST-PAD.
To all whom 'it may concem:
Be it known that I, ALBERT C. HENDER- sox, a citizen of the United States. residing at Buffalo, in the county of Erie and State of New Yorr, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bust-Pads, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a bust pad or form and has the object to provide a device of this character which will not absorb perspiration, which is thoroughly ventilated and which can be thoroughly cleaned, thus rendering its use sanitary and healthy.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure l is a front view of my improved bust pad or form. Fig. 2 is an edge View of the same. Fig. 3 is a cross section thereof.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several views.
In its general organization my improved bust pad comprises a hollow body or casing A, a contracted hollow or tubular neck B projecting laterally from the body at one point of its edge, and a filling C arranged within the body.
The body or casing of my improved bust pad may be of various shapes that shown in the drawings as an example being of circular shape and having a convex front side a and a substantially flat rear side a The body and neck are preferably constructed in one piece of rubber or other elastic or flexible material which is waterproof. and the filling preferably consists of wool or other fibrous material which is resilient and which permits of compression but again expands and resumes its normal shape after the pressure on the same has been released.
The neck of the body communicates at its inner end with the interior of the body while its outer end is open to the atmosphere, thus permitting free ventilation at all times of the interior of the pad.
The filling is introduced into the body and removed therefrom through the opening in the neck thereof, this opening at this time being increased in size by stretching or enlarging the neck to permit of such introduction and removal of the filling to be efi'ected more readily. The filling by this means can be conveniently removed from the casing to permit of thoroughly Washing the casing and filling to remove any odors or impuri- Specification of Letters Patent.

ties after which the parts are again assembled, thereby enabling the pad to be always maintained in a clean and sanitary condition and preserving the health of the wearer. Furthermore, by providing the casing With an opening the quantity of filling in the same may be varied according to the thickness of the pad desired or to suit the particular garmentwith which the pad is to be worn.
In order to prevent the neck of the casing from being torn when the same is stretched for increasing the size of the opening therein, this neck is provided with an annular enlargement or strengthening rim (Z which is preferably arranged on its outer side at its outer end. This rim reinforces the neck and permits the same to be stretched until the opening therein is as wide as the interior of the body of the casing, thereby permitting the filling to be introduced into or removed from the casing with easeand without liability of bursting or tearing the neck.
In bust forms of this character as heretofore constructed the casing has been constructed of woven fabric which permitted the same to absorb perspiration and soon become offensive or the filling was inclosed in a casing which was hermetically sealed which prevented removal of the filling for cleaning purposes and also rendered it impossible to vary the amount of the filling for increasing or decreasing the size of the pad.
I claim as my invention:
A bust pad comprising an elastic casing having a hollow body and a contracted tubular neck which communicates at its inner end with the interior of said body while its outer end is open to the atmosphere, and a filling of fibrous resilient material arranged in the body of the casing, said neck being expansible for increasing the size of the opening in the same and provided with an annular enlargement or strengthening rim for preventing tearing of said neck when the same is expanded.
IVitness my hand this 8th day of February, 1909.
ALBERT C. HENDERSON.
