To all, whom it may concern.-

Be it known that we, LEE R. MILLER and EMANUEL T. RICHERT, citizens of the United States, residing at Akron, in the county of Summit and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Supporting-Bandages, of which the following is a specification.

Ourinvention has relation to improvements in devices to be used on the human male organ of generation in cases of disease where it becomes necessary to maintain and frequently renew an absorbent compress on the mouth of the urethra to take up the discharge incident to the disease.

The object of our invention is to provide a simple and convenient appliance of the general class named which shall be cleanly in its construction, easily secured to the person of the wearer, and which may be easily and readily removed to permit of the renewal and removal of the compress or for the purpose of permitting the patient to urinate.

To the accomplishment of the aforesaid objeot. our invention consists in the peculiar and novel construction, arrangement, and combination of parts hereinafter described and then specifically claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, which forms a part of this specification.

In the accompanying drawing, 1 is a cap of thin vulcanized rubber and preferably of that class that is semitransparent; but other material may be used, if desired, of proper,

size to freelyinclose the end and a portion of the body of the penis. At the sides of this cap 1 and toward the back end are openings 2 for the purpose of affording ventilation, so that the cap will not unduly heat or sweat the member, and for strength and security against the cap being torn they are preferably reinforced with an extra ply around the holes. Connected with the open end of the cap 1 at each side is an elastic band 3, preferably of rubber braid, and this band is secured about midway between the cap 1 and its center to the opposite sides of a continuous band 4. of like material, but wider, adapted to inclose the penis close to the body.

At the point where the band 3 is attached to the cap 1 the edge of the cap is reinforced or strengthened by a circular band of rubber braid placed Within the cap and retained there by sewing or other preferred means.

. The loop of the band 3 back of the band 4. is intended to encircle the scrotum above the testicles, and thus tend to hold the cap 1 in place. To opposite sides of the band 4 is secured the ends of two bands 5 6, which are united by sewing or other like process at the point 7, whence the free ends pass around the body of the patient to be tied, buttoned, or otherwise secured, or, if preferred, these bands may be a single elastic ribbon. In operation there is placed in the cap 1 the absorbent or medicated compress and the cap drawn on the penis and secured by the bands 3, 5, and 6, supplied as just indicated. The absorbent compress will then be retained in place Without undue pressure or heating of the member.

When it is desired to remove the cap 1 for any purpose, it is accomplished by simply stretching one or both of the bands 3 between the cap 1 and the band 4.

What we claim is- 1. An improved surgical appliance of the class named which consists of a rubber cap to inclose the end of the member and an endless band to encircle the member close to the wearers body with an elastic band with its ends secured to opposite sides of the open end of the cap and its halves intermedially connected with said endless band, substantially as shown and described.

2. An improved surgical appliance of the class named which consists of a cap to receive the end of the member, an endless rubber band to inclose the member close to the body of the wearer, an elastic band with its ends secured to opposite sides of the cap and its halves interinedially connected with said endless band, and a band secured to the sides of said endless band and adapted to be secured about a portion of the wearers body, substantially as shown and described.
