Description
PATENTED JUNE 13, 19u05.
No.y 792,424.
F. KING.
TRUSS.
APPLIUATIDN FILED AUG. 9, 1904.
UNITED STATES Patented June 13, 1905o PATENT OEEICE.
TRUSS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 792,424, dated June 13, 1905.
Application filed August 9, 1904. Serial No. 220,066.
Zn (all whom, it may concer/1,:
-ing permitting the walls thereof to fit snugly around the neck of theA scrotum. Oonsequently when the scrotum and its contents are passed through this opening and into the said bag the outer edge of the oval opening hav- -ing the close contact mentioned efectually prevents the scrotum escaping backward when the attitude of thewearer is changed, as in athletic exercises, the mounting of a horse,&c.
Another purpose of the invention is to provide a narrow neck between the openings for the penis and the scrotum in the apron, which narrow neck presses firmly into the penoscrotal notch, and thereby prevents the testicles slipping upward intoand through the opening' for the penis.
Another purpose of the invention is to provide a waist-belt and straps of substantially equal strength connected therewith at the front and at the rear and with the upper and lower corners of the apron, thus effectually preventing the apron from slipping upward or downward, and the said waistband is provided with an attached broad stitfened pad at the rear, which engages with the small of the back, renders the waist ba'nd or belt comfortable in use, and sustains the muscles at such point.
Another purpose of the invention is to provide the apron with a hernia-pad and to so construct and locate the pad that it can be most comfortably worn and will full all requirements-in fact, to so construct the said pad that it will be provided with athin shank portion and a thick body portion, the body or thick portion being so located and so shaped as to fit in and close the external inguinal ring, while the thin or extended portion extends upward along the inguinal canal and exerts a uniform pressure from its external to its internal ring, and thus prevents the escape of-any of the abdominal contents downward and also retains within the external inguinal ring the varicose veins of the testicles when elevated and placed in their proper position. This pad maybe made of wood, hard rubber, soft rubber, or other suitable material. Preferably, however, it is made of soft rubber, either solid or iniiated with air, water, or other liquid.
The invention consists in the novel construction and combination of the several'parts, as will be hereinafter fully set forth, and pointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a perspective View of the improved device. Fig. 2 is a section taken through the device at the opening through which the testicles are passed, illustrating the pad in plan View. Fig. 3 is a plan View of the apron, and Fig. 4 is a detail sectional view, illustrating the manner in which the pad is secured to the apron; and Fig. 5 is a section on the line 5 5 of Fig. 1.
A represents a waist-belt, which is secured at its ends by means of a suitable buckle rt or its equivalent, and A represents a back pad, which is made of stiff material, so as to uphold to a greater or lesser extent the muscles of the lower portion of the back. The said pad is held in position on the waist-beltA by means of suitable loops 10. (Shown best in Fig. l.)
A front strap 11 is passed at the rear of the pad A below the waist-belt A and through the loops 10, said front strap 11 extending at its ends a suitable distance in a forward direction. Back straps 12 are likewise employed, which are secured to the outer faces of the loops 10 by buckles 13, as is shown in Fig. 5, and rivets l0 or their equivalents are passed through the outer faces of the loops 10 between the belt A and front strap 11, thus providing separate guideways for said belt and strap, as is also shown in Fig. 5. This arrangement admit-s of an independent adjustment of the front strap 11 and belt A, en-
abling the truss to be accommodated to the person as circumstances may require. In connection with these two straps I employ an apron B. which apron is provided with studs 15 at its upper end portions. These studs are engaged by clasps 16, ot' any suitable character, secured to the extremities of the front strap 11, as is also shown in Fig. 1. The back strap 12 is secured to extensions 17 from the lower end portions of the apron B, as is shown in Figs. 1 and 3, and at the central upper portion of the apron B a circular opening 18 is made for the reception of the penis, and this opening 18 has a border 18(L worked around the same or secured at its margin in any suitable or approved manner. Below this opening 18 an oval opening 19 is produced, surrounded by a suitable border 20, secured to or worked upon the said apron, as is shown in Fig. 3, and through this opening' 19 the testicles are adapted to be passed into a bag 26, which bag is secured in any suitable or approved manner to the apron B. The space 21 between the two openings 18 and 19 may be termed a narrow neck and is adapted for the purpose hereinbct'ore stated.
At the right-hand upper side of the apron B adjacent to the upper opening 18 a pad C is secured, and said pad, which may be made ot' a hard material, but is preterably made of rubber ot' a yielding nature, consists of a shank 22 and a body 23, the body 23 being preferably more or less convexed at its inner portion, or that portion which is adapted to bear against the body of the wearer. Usually the pad C is secured to the apron B by means of bolts 2-1, which are embedded in the pad at their head portions and pass out through the apron B through suitable washers andare held firmly to the said apron by nuts 25 or their equivalents.
This device is exceedingly simple in its character, yet is well adapted ior the purpose intended and will aiiord ease and support to all the parts named and in connection with which it is to be used.
Havingth us described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters .Patent- 1. In a truss, an apron, a waist-beit, a front strap, guides at the rear of the belt and through which the waist-belt and the front strap pass, onehaving adjustment independent of the other, connections between the top of the apron and the ends of the front strap, and back straps connected with the bottom of the apron and with the said guides.
2. In a truss, an apron, a back pad, guides attached to the back pad, a waist-belt and a front strap passed through the said guides and having independent movement therein, connections between the upper portions of the apron andthe ends of the front strap, and back straps connected with the lower or bottom portions of the apron and the back pad.
3. In trusses, an apron and straps secured to the apron for supporting the saine, said apron having' a circular opening therein for the outward passage of the male genital organ and a lower oval opening for the passage of the testicles, the wall of the said oval opening' being shaped to lit snugly around the neck of the scrotum, the space between the said openings forminga neck adapted to press into the peno-scrotal notch, and a bag connected with the apron at the said ovalopening, which bag receives and supports the testicles.
4. In atruss an apron, a waist-belt, connected loops depending from the lower edge of the waist-belt at the rear, a front strap passed through theloops and having its ends detachably secured to the opposite sides of the upper portion of the apron, and back straps secured to the lower portions of the apron and their ends detachably secured to the said loops.
5. In trusses, an apron having extensions at its upper and lower ends for the attachment of supporting-straps and provided with an opening at the central upper portion for the penis and an opening for the testicles below the lirstopening, the lower opening being of oval shape and having its wall adapted to fit closely around the neck of the scrotum, and a bag depending from the apron at the said oval opening, to receive and support the testicles, the two said openings being separated by a narrow neck, which is adapted to press firmly into the peno-scrotal notch, preventing the testicles slipping upward into and through the opening for the penis. i
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
FERDINAND KING.
