Description

(No Model.)
J. S. MOOANTS.
PESSARY.
No, 421,958. Patented Feb. 25, 1890.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JASON S. MCCANTS, OF TALLADEGA, ALABAMA.
PESSARY.
SPECIIEIGATIOIW- forming part of Letters Patent No. 421,958, dated February 25, 1890.
Application filed May 29, 1889. Serial No. 312,517. (No model.)
To all whom. it may concern:
Be it known that I, JASON S. MOOANTS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Talia dega, in the county of Talladega and State of Alabama, have invented a new and useful Abdominal and Uterine Supporter, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates toimprovements in abdominal and uterine supporters;and it consists in certain novel features hereinafter described and claimed.
In the annexed drawings, Figure 1 is avieW of my improved device in its operative position, and Fig.- 2 is a View showing different forms of the pessary.
In carrying out my invention I employ a belt A of elastic material, and to this belt I secure a series of depending elastic strapsB, to the lower ends of which an apron 0, constructed, preferably, of hard rubber, is at.
tached. The belt and the apron are provided with eyelets or loops, to which are attached the ends of the elastic straps E, which support the pessary and thereby secure the same in position. The pessary consists of the cup F, the stem G, formed integral with the cup and extending therefrom, and the base H, to which the straps E are secured, as shown. The base is provided with perforated lugs I, and a pivotpin J is inserted through the said lugs and a perforation K in the end of the stem, so that the pessary can readily accommodate itself to the position of the body.
In practice the belt is secured around the Waist with theapron bearing on the abdomen, and the pessary is then applied.
The device is very smailand light, and will not inconvenience the wearer; it can be easily applied, and will be found very efficaciousin the treatment of female disorders.
The cups of the pessaries are given different shapes according to the disease to be treated,
and the advantages of the device are thought.
to be obvious.
Having thus described my invention, What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-- The improved uterine-supporter herein described and shown, consisting of the base H, having the horizontal perforations K near their ends, the stem pivoted at its lower end on said base, the cup formed integral with the upper end of the stem, the elastic belt, and the straps secured to the belt and passing through the perforations K, as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my oWn I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JASON S. MCOANTS.
Witnesses:
