Description
No. 822,092. PATENTED MAY 29, 1906. W L. WOODRUF SURGICAL APPLIANCE.
APPLICATION IILED'DEO. 28. 1904.
BY (v A TORNEYS UNITED I STATES PATENT OFFICE,
Specification-of Letters Patent.
Patented May 29, 1906.
Application filed December 28, 1904. Serial No. 238 640.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM L. W001)- RUFF, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Troy, in the county of Final and Territory of Arizona,,have invented a new and useful Im rovement in Surgical A pliances, of whic the following is a full, clear, and exact descri tion.
The purpose 0 my invention is to rovide a sanitary hood or cover for the hea of the penis, especially designed to be used as an aid in the cure of venereal diseases, and to so construct the device that it can be readily applied and removed and worn with comparatively little discomfort.
Another purpose of the invention is to construct a device whereby a receptacle containing absorbent material can be employed to.
receive the discharges.
The invention consists in the novel construction and combination of the several parts, as will be hereinafter fully set forth, and pointed out in the claim. Reference is to be had to the accompanymg drawings, forming a part of this specificat1on, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved device, and ig. 2 is a longitudinal section through the same. As shown'in the drawings, a cap or hood body 12 is employed, shaped to conform to the head of the male or an and made of a soft waterproof materia .as, for example,
rubber or a light fabric suitably treated and which may be combined with rubber-and the said cap or hood body 12 is provided with an inner coating or lining 13, of adhesive material, wherebyv to cause the cap or hood to closely and smoothly adhergto the said or-' nipple is filled with a soft a gan, and the cap or hood is further provided with a central opening 14.
A nipple 15 is em loyed in connection with the cap or hood body 12, being secured to the latter in any suitable or approved manner. This nip le 1s made of a so 1; waterproof material, w at is known as silk-rubber being preferably used for the pu ose, and the said sorbent material 16, as is particularl shown in Fig. 2. Under this construction W en the ca or hood body 12 is secured upon the .head 0 a male genital organ any discharge through the urethral canal will be received by the nipple and will lodge in the absorbent materia 1t contains, and when such material has become fully saturated the device can be readily removed in the same manner as a iece of court-plaster and a new device be en stituted.
The device is simple, economic, readily understood and operated, and is particularly well adapted for the purpose intended.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
As an improved article of manufacture, a
enile cap or hood comprising a body ortion emispherical in shape and having a hesive ple of soft waterproof material of less diameter than the cap and closed at one end, the other or open end of the nipple being secured to the surface of'the cap around the said opening. e
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribin witnesses. v WTLLIAM L. WOODRUFF. Witnesses: W. S. S'rnvnn's,
BERTHA HILLARY.
