IRONINGr-BOARD.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented oct. 19, 1909.
Application filed November 6, 1908. Serial No. 461,321.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHRISTIAN PAULSEN, a citizen of the United States, resident of Bradley, in the county of Clark and State of South Dakota, have made a certain new and useful Invention in Ironing-Boards; and I declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure l is a perspective view of the invention as applied. Fig. 2 is an end view of the same. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the bracket. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a modification of the invention as applied.
The invention has relation to ironing boards, and it consists in the novel construction and combinations of parts as hereinafter set forth.
In the accompanying drawings, illustrating the invention, the letter a, designates the ironing board, of the usual shape, and which is pivoted at its larger end at c, to a double supporting arm cl, composed of two parallel strips CZ, d', separated by the width of the ironing board, said strips extending to one side of the board as shown at cl2, and being adapted at their outer ends to embrace the end portion of a table.
In order that the strips d, d', of the arm d, may have secure clamping engagement with the table a clamp c, is provided, said clamp having vertical branches e', c, separated by an interval c2, of the width of the strips cZ, d', and within which such strips extend, an upper horizontal transverse portion f, connecting said branches and lying upon the upper strip d', and a lower transverse horizontal portion f, connecting said branches and being provided with a screw threaded perforation f2, a clamp screw g, engaging such threaded perforation and having an enlarged clamp plate g', at its upper end for engagement with the lower surface of the lower strip d', and a handle knob or wheel g2, at its lower end.
At the smaller or front end of the ironing board a transverse arm h, is provided, upon which the free end of the board is designed to rest, said arm extending to one side of the board in engagement with the same edge portion of the table as the arm d, and consisting of upper and lower strips t, t, separated by an interval of the thickness of the table the edge portion of which is engaged thereby, a clamp similar to that described for the arm d, being employed for the arm L, as shown at c'. The upper strip t, of the arm h, is made shorter than the lower strip it', extending but a short distance from the edge portion of the table, said upper strip being employed in order that the clamping strips may have proper engagement with the table. The inner portions of the strips of the arms d, and It, may be provided with facings of felt or other suitable material not shown where they engage with the table edge to protect the surface of the same.
In Fig. 4 of the drawings a modified form of the invention is shown wherein the ironing board supports y', j, each, have greater length than in the form first described, being adapted for engagement with the opposite parallel edge portions of a table as shown. In this case the clamp for the supporting arms which is the same as before described is applied in a somewhat different manner, being slipped over the parallel sections with both of its vertical branches upon the outside thereof and at the same side of said sections. A larger clamping surface for the strips of the supporting arms is thus provided.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
Anironing board having at one end thereof 4upper and lower parallel strips pivoted thereto, separated by an interval and capable of receiving the edge portion of a table, means for clamping said arms to the table edge and supporting means for the opposite end of the board composed also of upper and lower parallel strips separated by an interval and capable of receiving the edge portion of a table and means for clamping the arms to the table edge.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
CHRISTIAN PAULSEN.
Witnesses:
W. H. GEORGE, E. A. SCHULLIAN.
