IRONING-BOARD ATTQCHMENT.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, DORA RAM), a citizen of the United States, residing at Kirkland, in the county of Dekalb and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Ironing-Board Attachments, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to ironing boards, and more particularly to an attachment therefor.

The object of the invention is the provision of a device of the above stated character, wherein the attachment is so positionedwith respect to the board to prevent the engagement or dragging of the overhanging edges of the clothes being pressed upon the board, with the floor surfaces, and thereby preventing the soiling of the same.

With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel features, details of construction and combination of parts which will hereinafter be-more fully set forth, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, and pointed out in the appended claim.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of an ironing board, showing my improved attachment applied thereto, and in active use; Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view of the ironing board illustrating the manner of connecting the supporting arms with the apertured plates; and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of one of the supporting arms.

Referring more particularly to the accompanying drawing, in which like characters of reference refer to corresponding parts in the several views, 5 denotes the usual ironing board having connected therewith an attachment, designated generally by the character 6, and the purpose of such attachment is to so position the same with respect to the board, whereby upon the pressing of table cloths, linen sheets, draperies and other large pieces of clothes, the clothes will be prevented from dragging or contacting with the floor surfaces. The said attachment 6 comprises a plurality of plates 7, adapted to be secured in pairs to the underneath surface of the ironing board at points adjacent the opposite ends of the boards, and each of said plates 7 is formed with an opening 8. The purpose of this plate 7 serves to support to the bottom surface of the board a plurality of supporting arms 9. Each of the supporting arms embodies a flexible rod 10 formed Specification of Letters Patent.

A pair of clothes holding mem ers 14 are provided for receiving the opposite overhanging edges of the clothes being pressed upon the board, and for the .purpose of illustration, the same is shown as comprising a large linen sheet' 15. These clothes holding members each comprises a linen bag 16 provided on the upper edges thereof with loops 17 for receiving the extending ends 13 of the supporting arms 9, and thereby holding the bags 16 in sus pended position with respect to the board 5. It will be further observed that these bags by being positioned in a plane with respect to the length of the board and to opposite sides thereof, will permit of both extremities or ends of the cloth 15 being pressed upon the board to be supported free of contact from the floor surfaces, and thereby preventing the soiling of the cloth 15 before and after the same has been properly pressed. In order to prevent any accidental swinging movements of the supporting arms 9 when in active position, I provide theplates 7 withribs 18, thereby assuring said supporting rods against movement with respect to said plates.
