Description

May 1, 1923. 1,454,028
. A. KROL NEWSPAPER EASEL Filed 00t- 16 1922 IN VEN TOR Zmj AJWZ.
BY Iii 5 ATTORNEY Patented May 1, 1923.
' UNITED STATES ANDY KROL, OF UNIONTOWN, PENNSYLVANIA.
NEWSPAPER EASEL.
Application filed October 16, 1922. Serial No. 594,682.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANDY KRoL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Uniontown, in the county of Fayette and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Newspaper Easels, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to devices for securely holding newspapers and the like in extended position for reading and has for its principal object the provision of an easel capable of being disposed in a variety of positions as may be most convenient to the reader or held in hand as may be preferred.
A further purpose is to produce an easel that can be folded compactly when not in use so as to be readily stored or carried about.
Another aim is in the provision of a light but strong easel structure that can be manufactured at a moderate cost. 7
These and other allied objects which will become more apparent as the description progresses, are attained by the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereafter described and shown in the accompanying drawing, forming a material part of this disclosure, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective front view of an easel made in accordance with the invention, illustrating its use.
Figure 2 is a similar view but looking from the rear thereof. I
Figure 3 is a perspective front view showing the easel as arranged for manual use.
The easel as shown in the drawing, comprises a light frame consisting of two substantially equal sections respectively 10 and 40 11 connected midway in the length of the side members by hinges 12 and having opposite the hinges, hooks 13 adapted, when engaged in their corresponding eyes, to hold the sections firm and rigid'wh'en the parts.
4 are extended at length.
Midway between the upper and lower cross bars and the hinges, in each section, are flexible bars 14 for supporting any article against them, as the paper 15 as indicated in Figure 1.
Also carr d y the side elements of th frame are pairs of spring clips 16 for engaging the side edge of'the paper tothe easel; the lower edges of the paper resting in hook supports 17 fixedto the lower cross bar of the frame. I
A pair. of eyes or loops 18 are set in the rear side of both side elements of the upper section of the frame, and engaging these eyes are the out-turned ends 19 of a bent wire support 20, the same having a loop 21 presenting a pair of contact elements 22 and a bolt 23 passed through the forks and hole 24 in the frame, the bolt being provided with a winged clamp nut 25 as ShOWn'in Figure 3.
From the foregoing it will be seen that the device may be compactly folded and when extended used upon a bed, table or other surface, or held in the hand as may be preferred. 1
Having thus described my invention and set forth the manner of its construction, application and use, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A newspaper easel comprising a sectional frame composed of two like elements each consisting of two side members and a transverse member connecting therebetween, hinges engaging the adjacent ends of said side members, hooks and eyes disposed at the opposite sides of said hinges, flexible supports extending across each pair of side ele: ments, means on the lower transverse bar for supporting articles disposed on the frame, removable means engaging the articles to the upper section of said frame, and means removably engaging the side elements of said. a
frame for. adjustably supporting the same; In witness whereof I have aflixed my signature.
