Description

T. J. MILES DISPLAY RACK Dec. 1 1925- 1,563,429
Filed Aug. 22, 1924 Patented Dec. 1, 1925.
THOMAS J. MILES, OF LOUISVZLLE, KENTUCKY.
DISPLAY RACK.
Application filed August 22, 1924. Serial No. 733,570.
1 0 all whom may com-era Be it known that T norms J. Minus, citizen of the United States, residing at Louisville, in the county of Jeii'erson and State of Kentucky, has invented certain new and useful In'iprovements in Display Racks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to display stands and has special. reference to a display stand 1 )articularly adapted to displaying bolts or rolls of fabrics in draped condition.
One. important object of the invention is to provide an improved construction of display stand so arranged that it will support a bolt of fabric in upright position, the bolt or cloth board forming a connection between the upper and lower portions of the stand.
A second important object of the invention is to provide a display stand having a. novel arrangement of spring wire clamping loops and a base receiving the ends ,of the wires and provided with means for securely holding said ends in position.
A third important object of the invention is to provide a new and improved means for securing wire ends in position in a base or other like object.
A fourth important object of the invention is to provide a novel arrangement of drape rod and holding means therefor.
With the above and other objects in view as will be hereinafter apparent, the invention consists in general of certain novel de tails of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically claimed.
In the accompanying drawings like characters of reference indicate like parts in the several views, and:
Figure 1 is a front view of the complete device showing a bolt of cloth in position but undraped.
Figure 2 is a similar view showing the device with the cloth draped thereover.
Figure 3 is a plan view of one form of the device, showing the lower part with the bolt of cloth omitted.
Figure 4 is a side elevation thereof.
Figure 5 is a section of one of the base arms on the line 55 of Figure 3.
Figure 6 is a plan view showing a slight modification of the lower part of the device, the modification making the device equally applicable to flat bolts or cylindrical rolls.
Figure '2 is a side elevation of a modifier tion particularl adapted for use with hollow rolls.
Figure 8 is a detail section on the line 8--8 of Figure 1.
In the particular form of the invention herein illustrated there is disclosed a base consisting of a pair of cross members 10 suitably mortised together at their central portions so as to form a Greek cross. The undersides of these members are provided, adjacent their extremities, with rubber or felt pads or feet 11 so that the device may be set on a polished surface without danger of marring the same.
Carried by one of the cross members 10 is a pair of spring wire loops each having a substantially oval body portion 12 terminating upwardly in a pointed portion 13. The loop thus has two sides or legs each of which is provided at its lower end with an offset 14 and a downwardly extending terminal 15. Each terminal is received in a suitable opening 16 in the base and the corresponding ofi'set lies in a recess 17 formed in the upper surface of the base member. The offset portions of each spring loop are alined with and directed towards the corresponding portions of the remaining loop and fitted on corresponding ends of the loops are the cover plates 18. Each cover plate has a pair of openings 19 through which the lower portions of a pair of loop legs pass and the plate rests on top of the offset portions so as to hold them in their recesses, the ends of the plate being bent down at 20 to lie against the sides of the base member and being there secured by screws 21. In the form of the device shown in Figure 3 the loops are flat throughout while in the form shown in Figure 6 their central parts are bolvlved as at 22 to receive a round bolt or r0 The upper part of the device consists of a. bar 23 having knobs 24 at its ends and this bar carries a pair of opposed spring loops 25 so spaced as to clamp the upper end of the bolt B, the bar thus extending along the top of the bolt.
In use the bolt is positioned between the loops 12 and the bar 23 applied as shown in Figure 1. Sufficient of the fabric is previously unwound and is then draped over the cross bar as shown in Figure 2.
The form shown in Figure 7 is intended for hollow rolls and has a pair of narrow crossed loops secured to the base 10 by a cover plate 27 as in the other form, the only diflference being that one cover plate holds all four loop ends in position.
There has thus been provided a simple and eiiicient device of the kind described and for the purpose specified.
It is obvious that minor changes may be made in the form and construction of the invention without departing from the materialspirit thereof. It is not, therefore. desired to confine the invention to the exact form herein shown and described, but it is desired to include all such as properly come within the scope claimed.
I do not limit myself to the particular material of which the device is made, as I may use aluminum, steel, or any other suitable material.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, 1s:
1. A display stand including a lower 2. A display stand including a lower member having a base and a pair oi? spring gripping members fixed at their lower ends to the base adapted to grip a cloth board. said members having opposed outwardly bowed central portions for gripping a cloth roller; a cloth board removably inserted be tween said gripping members, and an upper member including a transverse rod and spring grips fixed to the rod and gripping the upper end of the cloth board to support the rod in position extending across the board.
3. A display stand including a base, a pair of spring wire loops each having its ends inserted in said base, said ends each having a laterallyextending portion parallel with the top of the base and a vertical portion extending into the base, and cover plates bearing on the lateral portions and secured to the base, said base being provided with recesses receiving the laterally extending portions and the loop ends being arranged in pairs, said cover plates each having a pair of openings to receive corresponding ends of respective wire loops whereby each cover plate secures a pair of loop ends in position.
In testimony whereof I aifix my signature.
