Figure 1 is a perspective view of a washing device embodying my invention. and Fig. '2 is a detail perspective view show-in a scrub brush employed in the device.

The preferred form of my invention a illustrated in the accomprnviug drawing comprises an ordinary wash board 1 having side members 1'. In applying' the cord 13 one end of the same is first nailed to one end of the brush 11. then the cord is passed first in one direction and then in the other acrcss the lower surface at said brush. the loops I being nailed after each strand is positioned as will be readily understood by those skilled in the art.

In the operation of the scrubbing device the bar 3 and rod 5 are first positioned a on the wash board 1 as shown in Fig. 1. T 1811 the article of clothing to be washed is placed over the bar 3 and held in position thereon h v :n-ans of the clothes clamp of which 7-? are the clamp members. The scrubbing brush 11 will now be in contact with the article to be washed as shown in Fi 1.. The rod 5 is then grasped by the right hand and the scrubbing brush 11 with the left or vice versa. In moving the bar3 upwardly and downwardly bv means of the brush 11 the under side of the clothing is washed by contact with the corrugated surface '2 of the wash board. Simultaneously with the washing of this part of the clothing the upper verselv disposed clamping member T hh-h l lit) surface of the latter in proximity to the bru h it is also washed, the etl'ectiveness ot' the srrnbbing or washing depending upon the amount of pressure exerted upon aid 'l'lhll by the operator. The object of the -lt ls .l is to permit of movement of the brush 11 independently of the rod :3 and bar it being often desired to wash a small soiled spot of the garment or clothing, and in doing this it is unnecessary to rub the entire :-lll'ftlt'0 of the clothing. It is appar cut that when the bar 3 is pttlled upwardly by means of the combined action of the cords o, rod .3 and brush 11, the lower clamping member 7 causes the clothing to be securely gripped to the lower surface of said bar, thus preventing relative movement therewith. Durin the downward movement of the bar 3 the upper clamping member T serves in clamping the clothes to said bar. It is found that the cords 15, of the scrubbing brush 11, are very eflicient in performing the function required of them and that the most delicate fabrics are not injured thereby.

A scrubbing device as set forth is handy and convenient in use and etlicient in operation.

While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into elfect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I therefore do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction as set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.

Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
