MOP HOLDER.
Application filed April 15, 1922. Serial No. 553,256.
To all whom it may concern. 1
Be it known that I, JOHN MIKENAS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Amsterdam, county of Amsterdam, and State of "New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mop Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in holders for the cloths or rags of mops, particularly to a mop-headprovided with novel and improved means for holding the cloths or the like.
It is the principal object of my invention 1 to provide amop head which allows a ready and convenient attachment of the exchangeable mop rags to the head by means of a clamp, which is extremely simple and inexpensive, in such a manner that no part of the mop head or clamp can touch'the floor and damage the same.
Another object of the invention is the provision oil a mop the handle of which is adapted to readily operate and lock the clamp after the insertion of the clothin such a manner that a smooth mopping face is resented to a floor.-
Sther objects and advantages of my 1nvention will become more fully apparent as the description proceeds and will then be more specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
I In the accompanying drawing, forming a material part of this disclosure Figure l is a perspective view of a mophead constructed according to the present invention.
Figure 2 is an end view of the device, in cloth engaging position with the handle in place; i
Figure 3 is a similar view, with the handle removed, and the parts in position to receive the mop cloth.
The mop-head comprises a wooden base block 10 provided with longitudinally GX- tending substantially V-shaped grooves 11,
11 in its front and rear edges, in the bot- I toms of which we find the ends of cross bores 12 extending through the block 10 which are bored through the block so as to form inclined guide holes for the lateral bars 13 and 14 of a wire frame including longitudinal bars 15 and 16 connecting the free end of bars 13 and 14 in such a manner that bar 15 is adapted to rest in the bottom of one V-shaped groove 11, while bar 16 projects above the upper edge of block in Figure 1.
10 in the opposite side thereof, as indicated A second frame, 17 and 18 and connecting bars19,,20 is extending with its bars 1'? and 18 through inclined guide holes in the block. v
" As shown at 21 the endof bar 13 is guidi composed of side bars i ed around the loop formedend of bar 16,
and in a similar manner, the end of bar 18 is guided around the end of bar 19as in n dicated at 22.
Intermediatethe ends of bar 19 are coiled around said bar, spaced from each other, the
ends 23 and 24 oi a wire, which is bentto form lateral branches 25 and 26 which arev then coiledaround-a Wire 27v as indicated at 31 which is introduced with its lower reduced end into a suitable socket of the block 10.
28 and 29 toiorm a loop 30for the handle 1 i The wire 27 has lateral branches 32 and i 33 bent as illustrated in'Figure 1, the free It ends of whichare coiled aroundwire 16" nearit's ends as indicated at 34; and 35.
The device operates as follows: If a mop-cloth 36 is to besecured to the head, the handle 31 is, removed and the parts are brought by the suitable operation of loop 30 into the position illustrated in Figure 3, the mop cloth36 isth'en laid upon the bottom face'of block 10 and its endsare guided in the manner illustratedin Figure 1 over the bars 15 andQO. The loo-p 30 is then moved in the opposite'direction, which operation will move frame 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17,18, 19, 20 respectively, so that the bars l 15 and 20 respectively will clamp the cloth '36 between the bottom of grooves 11, 11' g and bars 15 and 20 respectively.
If now handle 31 is introduced into loop 30 and the socket in block 10 in the manner illustrated in Figure 1 itw'ill securely lock 3 i the parts in their mop-clothclamping posi tion. o v
It will be clear that no part of the block or metal framewill touch the floor to be 7 cleaned and that therefore any damage to the 1. A mop holder of'the class described 1 comprising a perforated base block, clamping. frames having portions slidably, disposed in theperforations in said block,
means for drawing said frames into clamping engagement With saidv block to clamp a mop cloth tosaid block, and a handle for said block adapted upon being inserted in the handle socket to engave and to lock said frames in their mop clamping posit-ion.
2. A mop holder of the class described comprising a base-block provided With two pairs of perforations extending diagonally through said block and with V-grooves in the side edges of said block, apair of baillike clamping frames, each having its side portions slidably arranged in a pair 0% the perforations of said block, means connected to the side portions of said frames for drawing said frames into clamping engagement with said block to clamp a mop-cloth to said block, and a handle adaptedto engage a a' Wooden block provided with two pairs of perforations extending diagonally through said block, said block also provided With V-shaped grooves in a pair of the opposed side faces of the block, a pair of rectangular Wire frames having diagonally intersecting side bars sliding in the perforations of said block, and upper and lower bars connecting the side bars of the frame adapted to engage in said V-shaped grooves over a mop cloth 13151066. over the bottom face of said block and over said lower cars, a Wire connected with its ends to one 01'? the upper bars of one of said trainee and formed into a loop, a second Wire connected with its free ends to the upper bars of the otherof saidfraines around which the loop forming Wire is clamped and a handle at ,pted to engage with reduced lower end a socket in said block and aoapted to engage with its shank said loop forallowing a 'depressionof said loop and operation of said frame "to clamp the mop cloth smooth against said block and holding the parts in their adjusted position. a
in testimony Whereot I have aiiixediny signature.
' JOHN MIKENAS.
