Description

Cil
i UNiTED srnrns-v PATENTOFFXE;
` Asisiiitir HAMILToN, or BnooKLYmivEwvoax i Moi,
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, Asuiiy HAMILTON, a citizen vof `the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have 'invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mops, of which the following is a specification. i
My invention relates to improvements in mops, and has particular reference to a fname for holding the mop head.
An important object of the invention is to provide a mop head frame, which is formed of a single section of suitably flexible or re silient wire, bent for providing a socket to receive the handle of the mop and opposed yclamping members to receive the mop head therebetween land in place. f
A further object of the invention .is to provide a device of the above mentioned character 'which .is extrenielysimple and inexpensive to manufacture. l
Other objects and advantages of the in'- ventionwill be apparent during thecourse of the following description.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which like numerals are employed to "designate like parts throughout the same,
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a mop erribodying my invention,
Fig, 2 is a perspective view ofthe mop head frame, and, o
Fig. 3 is a horizontal section taken on line detachably hold the saine In the drawings, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodinien-t of my invention, the numeral 5 designates the mop head frame as a whole, which is triangular with its base arranged forwai'dly.` This frame is preferably Yformed of a single section of suitably stift' and resilient wire, which is coiled at the apex of the triangle, forming turns 6, which con- `stitute a socket, for the reception of the forposed vsubstantially parallel clamping ele-` ments or arms 9, carried by the forwardly diverging sides 10. These arms 9 are provided at their ends with transverse extenneiction with the side arms.
specification af Lettersratentf, Patented Magg, 1920, Application led' August 21, 1919.` Seria1 No."318,899;f 'f
sions 1l, to enter the corner sockets at 8, suoli transverse extensions being provided with longitudinal keepers 12, at the ends thereof, whichV engage the opposite sides of the arms 10.
The numeral 18 designates the strands of a fibrous inop head, carried b va back 14.
This mop head is arrrnged between the arms 9, as shown. e
In operation, vthe niop head is retained between the clamping elements 9, which exert a sufficient yielding action thereon, the keepers 12 normally preventing the lateral f displacement ofk these clamping elements. To remove the mop head, the side arms 10 are moved apart, so that the keepers l2 disengage the corner sockets 8, thereby rendering the ends of the arins 9 free from convThe mop head may rthen'be readily removed.
It is to. be understood that the forni of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the saine, and that various changes in the shape, size, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to. Without departing from the spirit of my invention, or the scope of the subf joined claims.
Having thus described my invention, I claim: Y
1. A inop of the character described, coinprising, a mop head frame of substantially triangle form, suoli frame being formed ofH av single sectionof wire', said section of wire being coiled at its upper apex t0 provide a socket for the reception of the handle of the inop, said frame embodying forwardly diverging side arms which are bent at their `forward ends to provide corner sockets and opposed clamping eleinents, rtransverse extensions lcarried by the free ends of the clamping eleinentsto enter the corner sockets and having longitudinal keepers, and a niop head held between the clamping elements.
2. Arniop of the character described com` prising, a substantially triangular mop head frame embodying forwardly diverging side arins Vbent at their forward ends to provide corner sockets and oppositely arranged clamping elements which constitute the base of the triangle, transverse extensions carried `by the free ends `of the clamping elements to enter the corner sockets and` having longitudinal keepers, a mop head held 2 n L l 1,333,021'
betweenqthe clamping elements, aridi means to secure the franleto a handle.
3. A mop of the character described @91nprsngf,l a, frame including" spaced* :sldesI` Vwhich are bent at'their ends provldng transverse opposed Aclenrping elements and sock` ets at the inner ends Qf the elements, transverse extensensfearned? by the-' fgee ende* of the clamping elementsand havmg-longifiaxne te arhandle. v
In testimony Wheleef I ax my signature in' peseneeoltwo witnesses.
