TROUSERS-PRESSING DEVICE.

Be it known that I, BURTON H. LoCKE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Orange, in ythe county of Franklin and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Trousers-Pressing Device, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in trouser pressing devices, of the form whereby trousers are pressed by means of applying a pressure or a squeeze to same, and the object of my invention is to produce a trouser pressing device that by reason of a squeezing element thereof permits rapid and effective creasing of trousers and that by a simple stretching element thereof permits removal of wrinkles from trousers, without the use of moisture or heat in connection with same.

My improved trouser pressing device comprises a base board or base plate 10 being, in this instance, composed of two equal sections 11 and 12, which are fastened together at the inner edges 13 thereof by means of hinges 14. The base plate 10 could be constructed in one section instead of the two.

best shown by Figure 4. The sections 11 and 12 have diverging outer edges 16.

YIt is obvious that the shape of the base plate 10, as shown by- Fig. 1, corresponds to the general shape of a trouser leg.

On the diverging edges 16 of base plate 10 there are hinged by means of hinges 17 comparatively narrow strips 18. In this instance, there are two strips 18 hinged to` each of said edges 16, but said strips 18 could conveniently be constructed in one section, or could be composed of several sections hinged to each edge 16. Hinges 17 are adapted to `18, and have threaded `and strips 18 are shown as allow the face 19 of strips 18 to cooperate with the face 20 of base plate 10. Thumb I screws 21 project through holes 22 in strips engagement with base plate 10.v In this instance, the base 'plate 1() being of wooden structure, and when this structure is used metal nuts 23 to form the said threadedengagement with said-thumb screws, and washers 23a are provided in strips 18. However, I do not confine myself to this structure as these devices could be constructed of any ysuitable material. l

By means. of thumb screws 21 individua. pressure cooperation of face 19 of each of said strips 18 and face 2O of said base plate 10 is obtainable for the purpose of creasing .trousers 27 which are held therebetween in the process of being pressed. Other common practical clamping means for bringing each strip18 in an individual pressure cooperation with base plate 10 could be used in lieu of that shown.

Hinges 17 are shownas being of a well known type of hinge, but any other practical hinge could bel used in lieu of same.

There is a Shallow notch 24 extending across the face 20 of base plate. 10 at the narrow end 25 thereof, and there is also a similar notch 26 extending across the cooperating face 19 of strips 18 positioned in cooperating relation to notch 24. Notches 24 and 26 are for the purpose of receiving the cuffs of the trousers 27 when same pressed as previously described. Notches 24 and-26 are not required and same are omitted when cufliess trousers are to be pressed. yThe inner cooperating corners 28 of strips 18 are rounded the entire length of same to prevent an objectional line or. crease being made in trousers 27 at this point, as would be the case should these corners 28 be made sharp instead of being. generously rounded.

Near each of the diverging edges 16 at the narrow end 25 of base-plate 10 there is secured therein a hook-eye 29 which extends slightly outward therefrom and then backward beyond the face 15 of said base plate an amount equal to about the thickness of the base plate 10 and strips 18. This particular amount of backward projection of hook-eyes 29 would allow a feature of compactness when the device is folded as previously described and as illustrated by Fig. 4.

An explanation of; the use of the device just described would be briefly as follows The trousers 27 are placed on the basel plate 10 in the position as shown in Fignl. The strips 18 are secured in contact relation with said trousers one at a time by means of the respective thumb screws 21. The indi- Vidual application of each strip 18 permits a smoothing of the trousers between each said application of a strip, and therefore, permits a more correct insertion of the trousers than would be allowable by a combined clamping arrangement. The device can be then suspended by cord 30, which, as explained, previously', causes a removal of wrinkles from the said trousers.

I'do not confine'myself to the ez-:actdctails as the same are susceptible of modification without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention.

I claim as my invention z- 1. A trouser pressing device comprising a base-board composed of two longitudinal sections, and a strip held in hinged relation to the outer side of each section, said strips being positioned to cooperate with a common face of said base-board, and means for holding each strip in pressure cooperation with said common face of said baseboard, and a hinged connection between ythe two sections of said base-board, said hinged connection allowing the said 'sections to fold on the face opposite the cooperating face thereof, for the i individual pressure cooperation with said common face of said base-board,5 and a hinged connection between the two sections of said base-board, said hinged connection allowing the said sections to foid on the face opposite the cooperating face thereof, vfor the purpose set forth.

3. In a trouser pressing device as described in'claim 1, a hook-eye secured near the outer edge ofthe narrow end of each of said sections, each said hook-eye projecting outward therefrom and backward beyond the folding face of each of said sections and serving to receive a cord, for the purpose setforth.

4. A garment pressing device comprising a base member composed of a plural number of longitudinal sections, and pressing members at the. outer sides thereof, said pressing members positioned to cooperate with a common face of said base member, andmeans for holding each pressing member in pressure cooperation with the said common face, and hinged connections between the sections of said base member allowing said sections to fold on each other, and a hook-eye secured near eaclrof the outer sides of said base member at one end thereof, said hook-eyes 'ex- BURTON H.
