TROUSER CREASER Filed July 5, 1944 Inventor Patented May 13, 1947 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim. 1
My invention relates to a device for creasin trousers and other sleeve-like garments or articles and removing wrinkles. This trouser creaser is very simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, durable and practical in use.
In the accompanying drawing, where the same numbers denote the same details in the different views,
Figure 1 is a plan view of the device applied on a pair of trousers;
Figure 2 is a side elevation of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a perspective view of a detail, namely one of the clips used, shown in about half size, and
Figure 4 is a transverse section along line 4-4 of Figure 1.
In the figures a pair of trousers I6 is represented stretched in the trouser creaser which consists of two pairs of thin slats I I or narrow strips of wood or metal extending along the folded trouser edges or creases substantially all the way from waist-lining I2 to the cuff or bottom I3 of the garments.
Four pairs of wooden or metal clips I4 complete the set of items needed for each set of trouser creasers. One such triangular clip I4 is shown in perspective view in Figure 4 in about half size or about one inch thick and 3 inches length of each of the shorter sides, assuming that the clips are made of wood, other dimensions are selected for clips of other material. Across its apex the clip has a transverse slit I forming a permanently set, tapered jaw with its narrowest part in the rear at IS in order to give a firm grip over the slats II to tightly press them together and thereby crease the trousers.
Each pair of clips, four pairs being indicated for a set, is held together b an arched spring wire I! inserted with its bent ends in holes 18 provided therefor. One clip of a pair thus engaging the slats for gripping the trouser fod directly on one side, while another clip I4 on the same wire I'I similarly holds a pair of slats that grips the fold on the opposite side of the leg, the spring I! supplying the needed tension transversely for drawing out any creases.
The slats I I if made of wood need be no more than about A; inch thick and 2 inches wide. Sheet metal or some plastic may also be used of modified dimensions.
In using this device one leg of the trousers or sleeve-like garmentor article is stretched out flat on a table in the same manner as for pressing, whereupon one of the slats II is laid below along each folded edge and another above. Then the first pair of clips I4, held together by their spring wire I'I properly arched for spanning the width of the trouser article or the leg at the point of application, is pushed in over the slats I I so that the clips I4 will squeeze tightly on the slats and the trouser held between them. The spring wire must be arched to such a degree, see Figure 4, that it applies outward force to stretch the cloth transversely.
Then the second, third and fourth pairs of clips are attached in the same manner as shown in Figure 1. It will be evident that either the length of the spring wire [1 isadjusted to the width of the trouser leg or that its arching is modified according to the width of the leg at the place thereon where the particular pair of clips is to be applied.
It is to be understood that the invention as here disclosed is not limited to the details here described and shown but that the same may be varied widely without departing from the spirit of the invention as defined by the subjoined claim.
Iclaim:
A trouser presser and stretcher comprising cooperatin pairs of clamping slats adapted to be applied to the creases at the front and rear of a pair of trousers, a plurality of rigid triangular shaped clamping clips being formed with inwardly tapering wedging slots extending from a corner of each clip for receiving said pairs of clamping slats with the creases of said trousers positioned therebetween, said clips being spaced along the length of said pairs of clamping slats at opposite points and formed with bores extending midwa of the unslotted sides of said clips and at right angles to said slots, and bowed resilient spring connecting ties of increasing length formed with parallel depending terminal ends adapted to be received in the bores in said clips for connecting the opposite pairs of clips together with the shorter ties near the cuffs of the trousers for exerting an equalized pressure thereon to press a pair of trousers when placed in said p-resser and stretcher.
