It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a light, strong and compact device in whichthe trousers are placed, including the cuff portions, which will' not only renew the creases, but permit the garment to be hung in an inverted position while undergoing treatment.

The presser device as shown consists of two straight flat strips 10-10, preferably of. wood or other light strong material, of a length conforming to the legs of the trousers to be pressed and of a width to extend well over the edge thereof. 1 i v The inner edges 11 11'of the strips are rounded along their upper sides to prevent indenting the trousers possible marking or materlal.

Connected to the convergent ends of the rear strips -10, by similar flexible hinges 15, is-a short transverse bar 16 and-spaced adjacent to it, in register with thefront strips 1212, is a corresponding transverse bar 17;

F ixed centrally in the outer edges of the bars 1617 are the endportions of a spring wire 18, extending straight outwards for a short distance and then bent to form a double stranded. hook 19, connected at the bight 20.

This hook is obviously adapted to engage a support, in the manner of a common clothes hanger, and performs the purp'oseof an integral connection between the cross or end bars 16'17, which areheld normally separated by the spring efiect of the hook.

The strips 1012and 10"- -12 are clamped during the pressing-operation by pairs of clips 22 formed with eyes at one end'to receive pivot screws 23 set in the rear strips 10"-10 at suitable intervals, these clips being formed at their free endportions with open loops 90 24 adapted to encompass the paired strips 10 12 and'1012, when swung inwardly,.or to free thesame-whenturned outwardly and when operatively engaged, press the strips forcibly'against the trousers legsdisposed 95 therebetween,'thus effectively producing the desirable creased appearance. 1

while on the opposed strip 1s fixed a clamp 26 carrying a pair or spring arms 27 engageable in the socket and held by friction therein and in adjustment after the trousers have been clamped and drawn taut.

The strip pairs are normally pressed apart by a spring 28 held at its ends by pivot screws 29 set in the members 10l0 respectively.

In operation, the clips 22-24 are turned outward on their pivots and the presser placed upon a convenient level support with the ele ments 1010 downward, the bars 16l7 being extended outwardly.

The strips 1212 are turned outward upon the hinges 14, permitting free access to the inner sides of the lower strips upon which the trousers are placed, all visible wrinkles being smoothed.

The ends of the trousers are inserted between the bars 16-17 and the clamp loop 21 moved to tightly press the bars against the trouser ends.

The clamp strips 1212 are turned over the edges of the trousers and secured by the clamp clips 222-i, whereupon the opposed sides are drawn apart to tension that portion of the garment between them, and the device hung up by the hook 19.

Although the device has been described with considerable detail and with respect to a preferred form of the invention, it will be nderstood that minor modifications may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as hereafter de noted in the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention and set forth the manner of its construction and application, what is claimed as new and sought to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A trousers presser and stretcher comprising in combination with two hinged pairs of flat strips, clips pivoted to one member of each pair to embrace the strip member hinged thereto, a spring extending between the pairs to press them apart, a socket fixed to one of said pairs to extend transversely towards the other pair, anda spring element fixed to the other pair to engage within said socket.

2. A trousers presser and stretcher comprising two pairs of longitudinal flat strips flexibly hinged at their outer squared edges and having semiarcuate inner edges, pivoted clips on one member for clamping the mating member of each pair, means for exerting pressure to separate said pairs, and resilient means to retain said pairs of strips in ad justed position.

3. In a trousers press and stretcher, the combination with an opposed pair of hinged strips to receive the trousers edges, of slid able connections between said pairs of strips permitting lateral movement, frictional means for retaining said pairs in adjustment, said meanscomprising a socket fixed to one pair and a two pronged spring fixed on the In testimony "whereof I affix my signature.
