ROBERT GUNTON, 0F
EVANSVILLE, INDIANA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO FRANK L. 'ELMENDORF, 0F EVANSVILLE, INDIANA.
CLOSET-SEAT.
To all whom it may concern:
, Be it known that I, ROBERT GUNTON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Evansville, in the county ofVanderburg and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Closetheats, of which the following is a specificatlon.
This invention relates to closet fixtures, and more particularly to closet seats and has for its object to provide a seat of this type of simple construction and having peculiar hygienic features.
Another object of this invention is to provide a seat formed integrally of plastic material.
Another object is to provide a seat of this type in which the necessity for the use of reinforcing cores or other bracing means is obviated.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description, and it will be understood that changes in the specific structure shown and described may be made within the scope of the claim and that any suitable materials may be used without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings forming a portion of this specification, and in which like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, Figure 1 is a top view of the' device, Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the device, Fig. 3 is a front view of the device, Fig. 4 is a bottom view of the device, Fig. 5 is a view of a modified form of my invention.
Referring to the drawings, there is shown an oblong seat 10, similar to those in general use, having an oval opening 11 therethrough, and being formed integrally of hydrocarbon material, the inner edge of said seat being rounded as shown. The seat is provided at its forward end with an integral curved peripheral shield 12, decreasing from its center toward ts opposite ends, and having a centrally positioned mwardly directed drain point 13. The lower end of this shield extends inward of the inner edge Serial No. 444,022.
of the seat opening, as is clearly disclosed in Fig. 1. The shield 12 is spaced inwardly of the outer edge of the seat 10 to provide a bowl engaging portion 14, said shield decreasing in thickness from its base toward its outer edge.
It will be seen that the seat may be attached to closet fixtures in the usual manner, and when positioned upon a bowl 15 it will be seen that the shield, which forms a fender 12 extends downward inwardly of the front portion of the bowl as shown, preventing the seepage of urine between the seat and the bowl which frequently happens with the usual form of closet seat.
It will be understood that if desired, the shield or fender portion 12 may be made detachable from the seat portion 10 as illustrated in Fig. 5. In this figure there is shown a seat 10' similar to the first described form with the exception that the fender 12 comprises a separate member of lnverted triangular shape carrying a series of outwardly extending pin members 15 in its upper face, the seat portion 10 having a series of recesses 16 therein adapted to receive the pins 15.
What is claimed is:
A complete seat of the character described, consisting of a single piece of hydrocarbon material provided centrally with an oval opening, the inner edge of said seat being rounded, an integral curved peripheral shield decreasing from the center toward its opposite ends and skirting the forward portion of said oval opening and having a centrally positioned inwardly directed drain point, the lower end of said shield extending inward of the inner end of. said seat opening, said shield decreasing in thickness from its base toward its edge, said inner shield surface forming a continuation of said inner seat edge, as shown.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
ROBERT GUNTON..
